We are all familiar with the light getting brighter. New 'truths' replacing old 'truths'.

But what i have been thinking about recently, albeit 12 years too late, is that if that light has been getting brighter over the years, surely centruries ago the early christians got it wrong!!! Well they did if we follow that line of thinking. So we can ignore the New Testament then?

So then Jesus gave the disciples some old 'truths' which have been developed over the centuries into the 'truth' that jws have today.

Good point. JW answer would be that the truly "inspired" writers got it all right on the first try. How many teachings or instructions in the Bible, old or new testatment were first taught incorrectly, only to be changed later by new light??? Zero imo. My how times change...........oompa

this question would not be a problem for a JW....they would simply reply that the 1st century Christians had it correct....but there was a great apostasy after the death of the apostles. Jesus, as the newly enthroned king, found the IBS faithful and Discreet in carrying out their commision thus chose them as his earthly channel. So, imperfect- yes. But refined and correct by Jehovah as the day gets closer and closer.

I must also ask: If the light keeps getting brighter, then why, when I visited my first apostate web site, did it seem like the lights came on?

I always hated the light getting brighter analogy.

If you are in a dark tunnel and cant see much, you dont go making bold statements about things you cant see, only to retract those statements when the "light gets brighter".

You simply make no statement at all, and when the light gets brighter, new things get revealed. THere should be no changing of doctrines in "new light" there should only be new doctrines, and all the old ones should still be valid!

That is the true meaning of light getting brighter - all the old things are still valid - unless of course you were making assumptions about things you could only partially see in the darkness, which means you were presumptous!

As a ‘never have been a witness’ I could never understand this new light, but then there’s lot of things about the org that I don’t understand.

After the death of the apostles there was a great apostacy? Then Russel came along and put things straight? But then Rutherford came along and said to dismiss Russell’s beliefs? In 1919 Jesus looked down from heaven and chose this one group of people ? For what reason? What were they doing or not doing that was different from Christian churches? Today you could be disfellowhipped for following either one of their beliefs because of new light? I know that God isn’t stupid. Is he toying with them? Oh, they are imperfect people! Couldn't Jesus just as easily have chosen another group that would eventually see the light getting brighter and brighter?

I thought it was rather strange that my mother always condemned the Catholic church as being evil (such as pedophilia), but when the org did something wrong (pedophilia) it was because they were imperfect men.

I hate it how they always say old light and new light as if the old light is different, some how. If they are going to go by the Bible, they are supposed to say brighter light, not new light. New and old light is not in the Bible.
