    Try to collect that five,

I need that five plus a few extra cents, its 1.27 per litre x 4.5 here yesterday. I think that makes it 5.67 a gallon.

    Cheers!

    Hi Hope:

But you also get a lot of value from the taxes that we don't here (in general, there's more taxes collected in other countries that go to fix roads and such) - here, there's not enough tax collected to fix roads as they should be.

(ok, here's where Burn reminds us that roads should be built by private industry and paid for through tolls...)

Hey come to the Uk we pay $11 + per gallon but then our health care is good so we object but don't mind to much

You dont pay toll for use of the road? Wow. We get taxed pretty high, our taxes seem to pay for ministers private travel, vacations, cars, used to line their back pockets and our national health care is a joke. But it's still a beautiful country:-)

Petrol is about $6.00 a US gallon here of $1.50 a litre. The US gallon is slightly less than an imperial gallon we used to use .

It's only fair to tax gas for maintenance of roads. Heavier SUVs that use more gas tend to tear up roads more than lighter cars. Motorcycles tear up the roads even less. Gentler driving that saves gas also saves wear and tear on roads. And, bicyclists (that use no gas) do the least damage of all vehicles.
