I'm seeing a few JWD posters linking to and/or quoting things from the Huffington Post.

If that's where you get your news and opinions we are all in big trouble.

It's just as bad as people on the right getting their news from Michael Savage or Ann Coulter. Come on now!

Can't we all just find some middle ground?

Hi 5th, which middle-ground news sites do you recommend?

    I'm not.

My point is to watch and read both sides and form your own opinion.

Quoting www.huffingtonpost.com as your news source is as crazy as quoting www.wnd.com as your news source.

I don't mind MSNBC except for the Olbermann wacko... Huffington fan no doubt!

I like the BBC for world news too.

    Already do. One of the reasons I seldom comment in the political debates here;
this is a historically inexperienced crowd but fun to watch.

And ditto for the BBC (I get the sanitized U.S. version on cable). Having worked
in the news media for many years, I take it all with a grain of salt.

I never read the Huffington Post before yesterday. However, I did link to one of its articles because it helped underscore a point I was making.

    The link was here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/28/brent-scowcroft-echoes-ob_n_99026.html

I don't see any rabid left-wing ranting in this particular article. What it said was that Brent Scowcroft, former national security adviser under Presidents Ford and Bush 41, believes that the USA should bring its enemies to the negotiating table. (It reminds me of the old Chinese proverb quoted in the Godfather -- "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.")

In saying this, Scowcroft - a Republican, was agreeing with Barack Obama, a Democrat. In this case the issue was not about left versus right politics but what seems best to move America forward diplomatically (IMHO).

I think this kind of discussion is pertinent and exactly what America needs to talk about. So what if the source was the Huffington Post?

What is wrong with the Huffington Post?

What's wrong with the Huffington Post? I wondered the same thing.

In the Wikipedia article here, the following paragraphs illuminate some of the controversy:

Fox News television anchor Bill O'Reilly, as well as conservative media watchdog MRC, have brought attention to the Huffington Post hosting controversial statements on its blogs, and Arianna Huffington's initial refusal to remove them. Some examples include various independent authors sharply criticizing Americans supportive of the War in Iraq, accusing Dick Cheney of terrorizing enemies abroad and innocent citizens at home, and criticizing the Bush administration for indiscriminate spending. [7]
Perhaps the most controversial comments were exposed in mid-February 2008, after former First Lady Nancy Reagan fell at her California home. [8] Bloggers on the Post repeatedly made comments about the 86 year old former first lady suffering in her home and wishing her death. [8] Arianna Huffington responded, arguing that any crude or hateful comments are not tolerated and are taken down as soon as they come to the attention of the site's moderators. [9] However, the comments in question had remained on the site for a week, and were only taken down after Bill O'Reilly addressed the issue on his show.

I do check out Huffpo regularly as part of an effort to use diverse resources.

My primary bookmark is on Drudge Report. I've never read his posts, but find his links to the stories of the day convenient. For all the criticism out there by his critics, he mostly links to the same news stories everybody else reports on but with the twist of linking to the original story when possible. He also includes links to a wide selection of news organizations and other sources from both sides of the political spectrum, so he is a convenient gateway to a wider net.

Huffpo deserves much of the criticism leveled at it. The rhetoric there is every bit as extreme and hateful as what they charge the right with. They often simply write articles which are nothing but uncritical repetitions of left-wing talking points and flawed analysis from folks like Daily Kos and Media matters. I know, I check those blogs out as well. The hate spewed is often off the chart.
