It's supposed to be 103 degrees tomorrow out here. Our first triple digit day. Just the other day I was outside, enjoying the warmth, the sunshine, the beautiful greenery and the soft breeze. My first hint that summer is nearly here was the faint scent of dead animal that wafts over the valley at the start of summer every year. Pretty soon the wind will die down, fish will start dying off in the Salton Sea and a hint of dead fish and sulfur will drift up the valley to the hills. Ah summer, the soothing soft embrace of blistering car seats, so kind to my arthritic back. Decisions - sweaty legs that stick to the car seat or wear long pants? How many calories in a root beer float? Pay the water bill or let the plants die? Now that the long summer is in front of us, it's time to lay in a supply of Te Java, buy some trashy magazines and some ice cream. Hole up for three months until the triple digits are gone.

I'm glad to live where the summers are not so intense.Well we do have hellacious winters though. Good luck surviving the summer of '08.

When people ask how we can stand to live here in the summer, that's exactly what I tell them. It's not much different from folks who live through intense winters. You just stay inside for about three months.

We've had the most glorious, chilly, rainy spring so far. We had a long, cold, far too snowy winter, over 100 inches. So I am hoping this means a cool, rainy summer. That will be bliss. It usually hovers around 80 here in summer. A southern girl's dream. Last year it stayed too hot. We had 30 days over 90. In michigan, that's bad.

When I lived in Andrews, it would get up to 118. We wouldn't know and have our kids playing at the park. The humidity was so low, you couldn't tell it was dangerously hot until the kids turned red, not from sunburn, but from the heat, after 10 minutes in the park. You'd leave to go get a "cold drink" and see the bank thermometer saying 118. Man.

If it were 100 degrees here everybody would be out! I think it's only managed that once or possibly twice.
