i will be making my first trip to calgary in a couple of weeks.

banff / lake louise are already planned side trips, but what are some of the aspects of the city itself that should be explored? any inside info out there?

The only thing I suggest is if your going out for supper,

call ahead an book a table...it's brutal to get in the good places. Awesome restraunts downtown. If you try Jan Ardens place

down on 17th let me know I've been dying to get there.

    Cheers!

I think you'll not be there for Clagary Stampede...quite an extravaganza, good rodeo, too. http://calgarystampede.com/

If you're there a bit later in June, the International Gay Rodeo has a Calgary afiliate and event - real rodeo, lots of laughs. http://www.argra.org/

You already have Banff and Lake Louise - good choices. Banff has a very touristy section, fun but geared toward Americans. Better to buy things with Canadian money, the American Dollar pricing is a bit skewed to take advantage of tourist dollars. Take the cable car to the top of the mountain at Banff. http://www.banffgondola.com/

You've probably already seen this tourism Website: http://www.tourismcalgary.com/.

well, H4O, i have the dubious duty of telling you that according to WIKI and other sources, The Arden closed in 2005...... but i WISH it was open !! i love jann arden , my favourite song: i would die for you http://youtube.com/watch?v=TU4VYPEOuKU&feature=related

thanks for the links, voideater.... our timing was meant to not be there for the stampede, at least this year.... i am traveling with a friend (canadian) whose mum moved out there last nov so we are keen to scope the place out as a potential site for a business/store front... no point in dreaming if ya aint dreaming big, eh?

If you are travelling to Banff, you must take a trip to Jasper through the Columbia Icefields. Highway 93 I believe. A trip to the West Edmonton Mall is worth 1 visit . And don't forget Drumheller where there is the dinosaur museum. Calgary has an excellent zoo on the eastside of town. Enjoy.
