  One of the most troubling characteristics of this cult is (now we know it) it would anything in order to present itself as a reputable religion. This obsession is pretty pervasive. When taken into account, it explains many things, such as

  1) Why it pays millions of dollars to silence the victims of sexual abuse.

  2) Why it has invented the "theocratic warfare" concept.

  3) Why it uses the "new light" euphemism to cover false prophesies and errors of interpretation.

  What else would the WT do trying to present a good face? It has become, no doubt, a mafia-like organization.

  And threatening people with parts on the a$$embly to give the experience on the cue card instead of the real truth as their experience? And those "Keep Moving" and "Quiet" signs at the Grand Boasting Sessions? And coercing people to fake happiness? And "It's all right if all the sisters hate you--Jehovah wanted you in the Value Destroyer Training School"?

  The Watchtower Bible & Tract Society will do any amount of spin-doctoring to preserve a good reputation, but the one thing that they absolutely will NOT do is the right thing, the RIGHTEOUS thing.

  For years the WTB&TS condemned the sexual scandals of the Catholic Church. When it was revealed that similar problems existed in congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses, did the WTB&TS adopt a firm policy of THIS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED? No, the WTB&TS moved swiftly to implement the cover-ups that the lawyers in the Watchtower Legal Department prescribed. After all, some of the first pederasts revealed were members of the Bethel family. There were reputations to protect; the reputations of pederasts were at stake.

  They've dug a hole for themselves, and are unwilling to climb out of that hole by repenting their past sins and re-dedicating themselves to righteousness.
