    Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Co Ltd broke ground in October for the company's fourth plant in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan province. The carmaker invested 12.3 billion yuan ($2 billion) in the new plant located in east Chengdu. The plant is scheduled to start operations in 2016. Once completed, the plant is expected to have an estimated annual production capacity of 360,000 vehicles.

    FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co's began the construction of the Qingdao plant in November.

    With a total investment of 11 billion yuan ($1.9 billion), the plant is expected to start production in 2017.

    The plant's first stage will have an annual production of 300,000 finished vehicles.

    Shanghai GM's $1.2 billion Wuhan plant

    Sino-US joint venture Shanghai General Motors Co Ltd announced in August it will invest

    another 7.5 billion yuan ($1.2 billion) in its Wuhan plant to expand production by another 240,000-unit capacity inphase II of the project, in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province.

    Hyundai Motor's $926.5 million Chongqing plant

    Hyundai Motor Co plans to build its fourth plant in China for about 1 trillion Korean won

    ($926.5 million) and start production in early 2016. Hyundai and its affiliate Kia Motors Corp

    are betting the facility in Chongqing will protect their share of the world's biggest car market.

    The Sino-Italian joint venture will invest more than 4.23 billion yuan ($680 million) in the new plant

    that has an expected annual production capacity of 160,000 units. The new plant, located in

    Guangzhou, Guangdong province, is set to start producing the latest Jeep global models

    beginning June 2016.

    Volkswagen AG unveiled a new transmission plant in the coastal city of Tianjin in North China

    in early November as part of its plan to make highly efficient cars for the world's largest automarket

    The 2.2 billion yuan ($357.5 million) plant in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area is designed to produce 450,000 double-clutch DQ380 gearboxes in the initial period.
