What are the new jws going to be like?

Seems that Bethel is no longer looking for jws to make bethel their career, not unless one is a doctor, lawyer, engineer or very educated or talented individual that the wts can prophet from. People now comming to bethel are ones that will stay during their youth and then get out. The wts does not vwish to be burdened with geriatric care, medical care and providing for people that are no longer needed.

It is not like decades ago when one could find a good job without going to college and now without education a jw just cannot get by. A hs diploma just does not cut it anymore. While the preaching work is still the most important thing for jws, jws still have to provide for their families and they need to eat and pay rent.

Can a jw go staright into pioneering right out of hisghschool without being a burden? Can jws afford to pioneer nowdays without money from the wts? As a result of this there is a new jw on the horizon.

I do not think th jws will leave the wts. I think that the jws will be different.

    Any views on this?

Who woulda thought the dubs would drop the Book Study arrangement?

What you point out is very valid. Pioneering will only be an option for precious few who have the means either by their parents or some other fortunate circumstance.

What we are witnessing (no punn intended) is the gradual mainstreaming of the Watchtower religion. Over the next few years we will probably see their "preaching" take on a completely different look and even possibly allowing people to participate voluntarily. More and more just don't go out in door to door and the leadership will need to deal with this reality as these people are still hard core dubs!

I think the Internet has and will change witnessing for many younger folks who are familiar with computer use. I'm guessing that's why so many jws on YouTube are even willing to converse through text with apostates. Just think how much more convenient it is to witness on line when you want to and be anonymous at the same time. I wonder if the ones who make videos count their time.

I'd bet that this will be what Tuesday nights are designated for in the future! "See, we did away with the bookstudy so you could save your gas money to pay for an internet connection. You can witness online for hours and count every second if you'll just install the WTS spyware that tracks your every move on the internet for Big Brother and allows you to report your time automatically."

today JW's have it a lot more easier then many of us who devoted tons of hours to the Society the 8 day conventions, the book study and the 100 hours of service if you were a pioneer, and 150 if you were a special pioneer or missionary.

the witnesses have made some strange moves lately. I didn't know that they no longer have the Book Study, what lucky ducks they are . When did this change occour?

I wonder if it is fear on the part of the WTS thinking that if they don't downsize as it were still numbers of witnesses will continue to drop.

    Just a thought

Well I think it will eventually go back to the suggestions made back in the late 1990's. Go to college, but with spiritual matters foremost in mind. It is a far more effective campaign to have JWs in all walks of society. I don't think the old timers are willing to risk it just yet but those babyboomers.....well they have years ahead of them and they want to benefit from being "the sole channel of God".

I will use myself as an example of the future.

I am currently a RN, when working I earn $30+ hourly. I work on average 3 (24-36 hours) days a week or can opt to do a weekend "baylor" which is 2 days.

This frees up 4-5 days for ministry work. My profession lets me travel "where the need is greater" and yet I would still be able to find a job readily, travel nurses are given an apartment or housing allowance plus travel expense. I can assist in ministering to the sick and the spiritually in need.

So I am available to go where they say, support myself, and donate more then if I was being paid $8 at Wal-Mart of Costcos.

This could work if they mainstreamed more of their appearances so that the damning evidence of Russell, Rutherford, Knorr, and Franz seems unimportant. I think they indoctrinate heavily then get lazy then freak-out when the $$$ goes down and start the process all over again.

    Rutherford said Advertise Advertise Advertise.....

but in todays world advertising is not enough now it is Market Market Market.

Those of my generation have already heard this message and seen the dog & pony show again & again for 30-40 years..blah blah yawn.

I suck at writing but I bet with the WT CD and scans of older pubs that I could write efficient articles for the WT/Awake via copy/paste.

No what I hear most from my peers is the desire for a fuller JW "lifestyle". We are craving the various "ministries" of Christendom, we want our kids to sing in choirs, Sunday schools and plan missionary trips to the rainforests. We want a "women's outreach" and a "men's association". We know we should do something charitable towards our non-JW communty. We would happily devote more days of the week if we really felt we had a community rather then concerns about tattling. We would volunteer for missionary work similar to the Mormons. We would welcome JW schools and colleges. We want reasonable reproofs. We want the GB to knock off the 1914, 1919 gibberish and to be 'real' with us, have them and others at Bethel actually become Bible scholars. Let all partake, and the WTS to get it's fat ass off of Jesus' throne and earn their keep. Most of us would like Birthdays for our children, most of us hate X-mas and Easter but almost all of us celebrate Thanksgiving and 4th of July (we are a generation of pyromaniacs). We liked DCs when they were in cool towns that had amusement parks, when food was served, and deals on hotels were good. We miss hanging at the pool as a group and having fun while Elder/MS dads down a couple of beers. We miss organized amusement park trips......we are not a generation that will go along with "beatings to improve morale" oh no we will sit in that KH and take up space to keep our parents involved with our kids but we will not be making any contributions other then locally (depending on mood) and FS will be a joke. Above all lighten-up Trib/BigA is gonna happen when it is gonna happen, what matters most is if we are faithful Christians........I doubt this will ever happen and am happy to see the tower crumble as fast as possible. Life goes on....

I predict no mainstreaming. Instead, they are going to create the illusion of going mainstream. All the while, they are going to be more controling on people. Eventually, they would like to get them out in field circus all the time--if enough of the obstacles preventing them from doing so are removed, they would do just that.

In fact, I am watching for the announcement that Tuesday evening is field circus night.

As the world changes, so will they. They have to in order to survive. Going at this rate, they will fail because no one will want to stay in or even join up. Already the retention rate for born-ins is 37%. That means that 63% of born-ins leave. That's encouraging! Where else but from born-ins do they get most of their flock now?

Well I think it will eventually go back to the suggestions made back in the late 1990's.

Folks are doing this anyway. In my area and in my hometown I would say about 70% of the kids are going to college right after high school. Most of them opt to live on campus. They usually attend meetings in their local area for about a year or so but they eventually just fade away. Most of the congregations that I am familiar with have virtually no one between the ages of 21 and 40.

No one is really out in field service anymore and folks are being bold about it too. You ask someone about service and they will tell you that are taking a weekend trip somewhere or that they decided to do things around the house or they promised the kids they would spend the day at the museum. Most folks do a few token hours of service. The last couple of congregations I was associated with had and average service time of either 3 or 4 hours a month.

There is definitely a new generation of JWs. But you still have your die-hards who live every moment for the org and are now resentful because they have no education and can barely cover their bills. I have actually been told by a some JWs that folks that went to school will probably not make it into the new world and the ones that do will not get the same blessings as the ones that made so many sacrifices for the kindgom. They rather stay and complain about how its not fair that folks are doing whatever they want while they seem to suffer for being to loyal. You just want to say WAKE UP.
