A real rush..standing 10 feet from the edge of the Marianas Trench

A few years ago I was in Guam and could walk out on the reef on the eastern side about 200 yards in water up to my waist. The water is a beautiful turquoise until one gets to the edge of the reef where there is a distinct color change to a dark, almost black, blue. I stopped about 10 feet from this dark line, knowing it was the edge of the 35,000 foot deep Marianas Trench. If I was a swimmer I could have swam out over the abyss. But I'm just a wader. Still an exhilarating experience. In the picture below Guam is the figure "8" shaped dark spot at the southern end of the Marianas Islands chain.

wow - takes a pair of brass ones to wade towards the Trench not being a swimer :-) maybe they're the reason you can't swim...

Very cool experience. Can't see the pic, though. (Maybe it's just me. My pc has been acting up lately.)

Yeah that's it. I can't swim because of my big, brass ones! Actually, can't swim because I have a phobia of getting into water where my feet can't touch the bottom. This goes back to being held under water by a couple of JW assholes brothers when I was about 13.

actually, when I was a kid..... the congregation was practicing the (DC) drama next to a swimming pool.

some wiseass brother threw the PO with the cassette recorded drama in the pool.

not only did this guy almost drown, but the cassette tape was ruined!

Ya, you got lotsa... I can swim and have scuba dove. However, i would be scared to do that. I might do it anyway, but i would be scared. Heck, maybe i would swim out over the trench, just to do it. Or, maybe not;)

brings back memories. My father was in the Navy and we lived on Guam for 3 years when I was a kid. Great place to be a kid. I'd like to go back just to see it one day.

WOW! That must have been a neat experience. I remember when I was young, I would swim out to the sandbars in Daytona, sometimes at night. I look back now, and wonder how I could have done that. Now when I am near the ocean, I am lucky to go into the water up to my knees!
