How many of you were physically assaulted because of being a JW?

When I was in the 4th grade, a classroom bully (boy) punched me in the face (I'm female) because I didn't say the pledge of allegiance.

He was a big boy and I was an average sized girl. He didn't break my nose, but he bloodied it, knocked out one of my baby teeth, and caused both my eyes to get blackened. The teacher (who openly told me at the beginning of the school year) hated JWs with a passion and so she watched and did nothing when she saw the boy hit me at recess. Ultimately she had to send me to the nurse because both my nose and mouth was bleeding all over the place.

Later my parents called the teacher. The teacher told them I was lying about her watching yet doing nothing. She told them I was a "little trouble maker" and provoked the boy. My parents, being the good JWs that they were/are, dropped the issue and didn't raise hell about it. To do so, they reasoned, was to put Jehovah in a bad light. As for me, I was semi-scolded for not just walking away from the boy. I actually did try to walk away from him, but he ran around in front of me and then punched me. Also, I was told to "stop pouting" and be proud that I had "made Jehovah proud."

WTF?! The supposed "loving" Jehovah is proud when a 4th grade little girl gets her nose bloodied, gets a tooth bashed out, and 2 black eyes because of him?! I think it was here that I began doubting the religion, god, and all the rest.

Later, around 12 or 13 years of age, another teenage girl and I were out in field service. My folks, her folks, and another elder were out with us and were working further on down the street. We knocked on a door but no one came to answer. My friend brought a tract out of her bag and folded it up and stuck it in the door. As we were walking down the individual's driveway, we heard a man's voice say "Sic'em!" The scumbag, inbred Redneck actually had his dog attack two teenaged girls.

When we turned around, we saw a rottweiler bearing down on us. Of course, since good JW females can only wear dresses and non-running shoes (i.e. heels), we couldn't run very fast. We tried to run, but the dog caught up with us. The dog bit my friend on the ankle and me on the calf. Rottweilers can bite pretty damn hard.

We reached the street and screamed. The man called his dog back and went into his house and shut the door. Everyone came running. In the car, the adults discussed what should be done. As my friend and I pressed tissues to our wounds and shook from fear, the adults decided to drive to a resteraunt and call the police. When the police arrived, the adults said "We don't want to press any charges. We simply want to know if the dog has been vaccinated."

The cop was incredulous. He asked them to repeat that they didn't want to press charges against some guy who turned a dog obviously trained to attack on two minor girls. They repeated that all the wanted to know was if the dog had had its shots. I remember the cop looking at me and my friend with pity. You know, I hope that incident turned him completely off the JWs. The cops' hands were tied anyway. The only eye witnesses to the incident were me and my friend.

When I was in my early twenties, some guy pointed a gun at the head of the elderly man I was working with. The eff'd up thing was, the old man never blinked, he simply excused us and went to the next house like nothing had happened. WTF?! Properly brainwashed or not, having a gun leveled at your head should affect you in some way.

Other times I was in the car group of people who were threatened with violence, had baseball bats waved at them, etc.

What a stupid and dangerous pratice this religion has!

    Feel for ya Lady Z,

I too was bullied in school as I was the only witness there in an all boys school. Now we had nothing like the pledge of alleigance and flag saluting, but I did stay out of all the religious studies lessons which attracted the wrong kind of attention.

I'm not much of a fighter and was beaten, not badly, but a couple of scrapes which my parents came and sorted out. But it didn't stop until I snapped and flattened the ringleader with one punch. On his arse he was!! Boy did it feel good. There was stunned silence until I said 'anybody want any more?'(there was only 2 goons) I was fired up by then. They all slunk away and were all nice and sweet as pie next time saw them.

    Righteous vengence it was.

    llbh, lucky you!

Yes, I was bullied physically and mentally in school.

About that guy who turned the dogs on the girls, since it was the curtalege of his house and even no danger inside, either, he was ripe for charges of using a dangerous weapon against a person and assault with a dangerous weapon against a person. Two charges each. Why couldn't the girls be witnesses to the attack? There were two. They would have made excellent witnesses in court at that age.

This was in the early 80's in the Midwest. Things like that could happen and people could still get away with crap like that.

Quite a traumatic story there LZ. Sorry that you had to suffer that, especially in your childhood. It would be interesting which of all of those experiences you feel affected you the most. Maybe you could say………

From 11 to 18 at least once a week I was in a fight at school. Started off with the flag salute problem some redneck got in a huff about and got all his buddies behind him. Went down hill from there. I never backed down from a fight and didn't have a clue how to make peace. Got stabbed on 3 different occasions, broken ribs, broken finger, black eyes, bloody nose, lips. High school sucked. This was in Pennsylvania in the 80s.
