WT publications

Was visiting my mom the other day. Her JW friend was there and I asked why the magazines look so cheap these days. The friend said that the society felt that people weren't really reading the WT because the study articles were too deep for them so they changed things and offer the Awake instead. (?????)

If the society has so much money why are they cutting back on the quality and quantity of materiels? It just really looks tacky. They used to look professional. What's going on with this?

Despite their fear of the internet do you think they will eventually put everything on line and people will have to print it out for themselves? That would save them a fortune but might endanger their existance.

I doubt it. They have to have hard copies to offer door to door, and they wouldn't convert people unless there were rank-and-file JW's trudging door to door, to give them that personal touch.

Also, a lot of their converts are coming from poorer areas and countries where the Internet may not be so widely available.

The Watchtower has a lot of assets, but are having issues with revenue for several reasons.
    1. since the magazines started being offered on donations they are getting a lot less than they used to for them
    2. most growth is in poor countries that cannot donate as much
    3. JWs are less generous as the urgency has been disappearing
Add to this losses through legal settlements.

Most new changes have been to cut costs; ie upgrading printers so they can get rid of 3000 bethelites, low quality printing, only one issue of the Awake.

LOL! Yeah, that must be it. The intellectual and spiritual depth is just too much for most people to grasp

I don't think online-only is ever going to happen; not only does it not work with the existing model, it severely undermines it. The WTS has much wealth but is not terribly liquid, so cost-cutting measures like this are not surprising and are likely to continue.

They do have the publications (at least some of them) online. However, I am highly suspicious of anything from that organization that requires one to sign up to receive them. They might include spyware, snitchware, and the ability to trace your physical address and allow Brother Hounder to stop by and hound you.

Maybe you were looking at the new "members only" WT that the public does not see. I haven't seen one but would imagine the look would be less polished if the public does not see.

This magazine is not to be placed at the door and only given to ones that attend meetings regularly.

Hmm won't be long until they morph the Public WT and Awake to one monthly mag....

Quandry, sounds like they are hunkering down and trying to keep things secret. I guess it's a phycho. ploy to make them feel like they are getting "special" information for their eyes only.
