    Thanks so much for sharing this. This disease seems to be becoming increasingly prevalent - I now personally know 3 people battling and it is horrible ... at least a hopeful sign...

    I just lost a very good friend to this disease. He was one of the few friends I have made outside the organization. I know his family was looking into alternative therapies, but few things helped. I know some are working on stem cell treatments, but because the motor neurons are long (maybe up to 3 feet) they are not easily replaced. The effects of the disease were barely noticeable for months then just within this past month, his speech became slurred and his breathing was labored. He lost his ability to eat and was scheduled for a surgical procedure to place a feeding tube. His mind was sharp, but this disease took everything else. Just felt like saying something to raise awareness.
