And guess what???? Nobody died and fire didn't rain down from heaven. It was actually one of the best days that I had in a long time.

You're right. The picture that the WTS paints of former members is nothing short of slanderous. I'm happy you two got together.
After being DF'd, I got back together with my sister who had been DA'd many years. It was the start of a wonderful friendship. She's been there for me when I needed it during the past few years, and any fears I had about her "influence on me" while I was still a JW proved to be unfounded.

Amen to that. I wasted a few years not talking to my DF'd mother but now the WTBS has no more control over my life. Remember that it is just a bunch of stupid man made laws. Yes if we follow them it can affect us or the people we love but the JW only have power if we let them. When I finally realised that there was no real consequence to not following their silly rules I felt a great liberation. You got to take the power back.
Good for you and your sibling!
changeling :)
I never, ever shunned my mother, who's been DF'd since I was 5. The hardest thing I ever had to do was tell her that she couldn't attend my first wedding reception, because the elders and my future in-laws told me I had to do it. Ridiculous!!! Ever since I got DF'd life has been WAY BETTER for me, I've been talking with other DF'd people and learning about their stories, its been a great change for me.
Its so important to keep ties with family and REAL friends, good for you!!
