    Hi all,

Ran across this in my reading today (The 3rd Chimpanzee by Jared Diamond):

Many primates, including monkeys, baboons, gorillas, & common chimps (and lions) kill infants not their own The bereaved mother is thereby induced to come into estrus again and mates with the murderer, thus ensuring offspring from him.

This is common in human history also. Male conquerors kill the men and children but spare the women (especially virgins).

I won't bother quoting chapter and verse, but it was the M.O. of the Israelites most of the time to do this.

To many, this behavior is a proof of evolution and that humans still carry many of the same characteristics of their animal ancestors.

And in the manner you state, we all continue to have the "mark of the beast," the vestiges of our animal origin. However, as we continue to evolve, becoming more and more spiritual this mark of the beast will eventually disappear. And when anyone attempts to find those with the mark of the beast, we won't be "in our place" since we will have evolved into a new type of being. And God will not have murdered anyone to accommplish that end.

    Sermonette over.

Wow, Francoise, what an interesting twist on the 'mark of the beast.' I really like that.

Moman and Satan, thanks for the replies. :-)

Hi Pat, do bunches of chimps ever attack another bunch of chimps...killing all except virgin female chimps?

    Hi ISP,

You know, now that you mention it, I did read that was observed in some kind of ape troops. It took quite a while and they attacked one by one over a period of days/weeks and then they took a female. If you're interested, I think I could find the reference.
