  The 6/15/08 WT article to be studied August 4-10 is entitled, "Things From Which We Must Flee." Besides the usual crap about 607 BCE, paragraph 10 says this:

  "Today, billions of humans are involved in various forms of false religion that can be traced back to ancient Babylon. (Gen. 11:6-9) Collectively, those religions are designated as "Babylon the Great, the mother of the harlots and of the disgusting things of the earth." (Rev. 17:5) False religion has a long history of supporting the political rulers of this world. Among "the disgusting things" include acts of pedophilia and other forms of sexual immorality committed by clergymen and tolerated by the church authorities. Is it any wonder that Jehovah God will soon rid this earth of false religion?--Rev. 18:8."

  My question is, when you're embroiled in a sexual abuse scandal yourself, don't you think it would be wise to completely avoid bringing up the topic at all? I mean, seriously, do they think nobody is going to see the hypocrisy here and jump on it? Do none of the R&F know about the sexual abuse scandal within the WTS? Don't the people who write these articles have any common sense at all?

  If they've heard about it, they think its apostate lies. They all know that sort of thing doesn't happen in Jehovah's clean organization.

  In a word, no.

  I think this is a classic example of misdirection on the part of the writers. If they can get the sheep to look the other way, they hide their own problem.

  Jeff, do you think the WTS is ever going to admit what's going on? Granted, they'll find a scapegoat, but will they ever admit it even happens?

  They can't afford to cut loose one thread, then everything would unravel!!

  That's the problem with this organization, anything negative is dismissed as apostate lies.
  
  I do remember a certain Congregation where quite a few publishers were partying and fornicating. Most were married. After the announcements and disfellowshippings, everyone was rather distraught that Jehovah had allowed this to occur in the congregation.
  
  So the general opinion is when horrific acts such as pedophilia are brought up, it's dismissed on these two arguments.

  Babylon, "confusion," is repeatedly used by the prophets in a symbolic sense ((See Scofield "Isaiah 13:2") ), note 2. Two "Babylons" are to be distinguished in the Revelation: ecclesiastical babylon, which is apostate Christendom, headed up under the Papacy; and political babylon, which is the Beast's confederated empire, the last form of Gentile world-dominion. Ecclesiastical Babylon is "the great whore" Revelation 17:1 and is destroyed by political Babylon Revelation 17:15-18 that the beast may be the alone object of worship. ; 2 Thessalonians 2:3,4; Revelation 13:15. The power of political Babylon is destroyed by the return of the Lord in glory. (See "Armageddon,") ; Revelation 16:14; 19:17. The notion of a literal Babylon to be rebuilt on the site of ancient Babylon is in conflict with Isaiah 13:19-22. But the language of Revelation 18:10,16,18 seems beyond question to identify "Babylon," the "city" of luxury and traffic, with "Babylon" the ecclesiastical centre, viz. Rome. The very kings who hate ecclesiastical Babylon deplore the destruction of commercial Babylon.
