i love musicals - and im not even gay.

phantom, les mis, miss saigon, evita, aspects of love,

and songs like you'll never walk alone, old man river, papa can you hear me/a peice of sky, choke me up every time.

but my favourite is chess...music by the boys from abba .

and one particular song is right out of the pink floyd songbook musically and lyrically (including a gilmouresque solo - and rumoured to be played by him) - pity the child

(this is especially ironic since roger waters has a particularly dismissive lyric about lloyd webber on his amused to death cd..and yet his own opera ca ira is not so far removed)

not that i care...so long as they both/all continue to make great music then i will be happy/sad/elated/depressed just as intended.

    so whats ya fave.

Loerner & Lowe excelled on this one. Great story line, perfect lyrics and Kelly & Charisse. What could be better? Nothing in the way of musicals post 1950's ever came close imo to capturing the spirit of the genre. Andrew Lloyd Webber - .

Sondheims 'Into The Woods' is spectacular also, but I hate things with kids in.

We LOVE musicals.....my husband - not gay - can sing every Oklahoma song start to finish. We have Sound of Music sing-a-longs. My DIL is a Karaoke maniac and does Phantom, Singing in the Rain, Pajama Game, all the good ol musicals. Across the Universe was very good. All that Beatle music. We are big Pink Floyd fans so I must check out Chess, never heard of it. We did see Roger Waters in concert, amazing.

Why is there this notion that only gay men (and not straight men) can like musicals?

I grew up in a musical home, so it was natural to like musicals. I like the classics by Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Lerner and Loewe, but also like some of the newer ones. I just saw Hairspray for the first time last year and loved it.
