I was looking over this book today, and ran into an interesting situation.
On this site, and in the news, the comment has been made quite often regarding how children seem to be leaving the organization in droves.
But this book keeps hitting on how adults and kids should put God and his service first, yet their is an undercurrent of desperation
in the wording at times.
On page 83 paragraph 3 the comment is brought up as to how people will disregard gods standards for living, yet accept standards set by men.
The example used is water quality, how important clean water is to your having good health, if the quality is bad, diarrhea and other
problems can occur.And CHILDREN are especially affected !
The statement " if there were no standards we would soon notice" is made regarding water quality.

Well,, if JW's are so "righteous and pure" why are kids leaving at an alarming rate ?
if there were no standards we would soon notice seems to really reflect on the organization and the example kids are expected to follow
in their lives.
Something must be wrong with the way standards are being taught, and the examples being set in the JW religion, it seem that there is
a massive influx of JW diarrhea with all the young ones leaving.

Highlighting party? Does anyone realize how close to crazy this sounds? What's next? page turning parties?

The further away I get from this, the crazier it sounds. BTW, I like the diarrhea comment.

From what I've seen, most parents do a lousy job raising their children in the "Truth" and so they never gain an appreciation for it themselves. Children are conditioned and/or forced to comment at meetings to make the family look good. I had a mother tell me that she was too nervous to comment herself so makes her children prepare and give comments so they won't end up like her. I thought to myself, wouldn't seeing you share your faith and be an example rather that dictator be better? Suffice it to say, not sure about the 3rd child but of the other two, one is DF and one is DA. So much for all those good comments they were made to give. I've had an elder's kid tell me that their family did not need a family study because their father was an elder. I've had a young pioneer tell me the reason she started pioneering was because there was nothing else to do. I've had a witness at Bethel tell me she wanted to go to Bethel because she was sick of having to cook dinner for her husband (her mom had cooked for her while she was single and pioneering).

Yeah, I got that several times at Bethel. I thought it was because the chicken was undercooked. Later I realized it was because the religion was half-baked.

That is another waste of paper and highlighters. First, if you live with that Almighty Baghead's day in mind, you will waste your whole life and never do anything good for yourself or society. To me, one should focus on doing what is good for self or society, not some Almighty Lowlife Scumbag or a Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger.

Plus, it is more of the same. Pioneer. Quit college or a decent job and waste the time in field circus. Quit doing things that are amoral (that is, neither good nor bad). Study the Washtowel and Asleep. Do not plan for yourself. It is all the same crap.

I would rather use the highlighters for color coding things. I still have multiple highlighters, even though I never touched one to a washtowel or an asleep (I use them to color code music and to highlight songs I have successfully located). Other uses for the highlighters include your grocery items and shopping lists (highlight items you successfully get), studying in school or college, or color coding whatever you feel like. If you are studying something you really want to learn, a highlighter can quickly locate the pertinent portions of paragraphs. Just don't waste them with the washtowels and asleeps.
