Why do we give admiration to those who are 'sincere'?

side note:Dear Coco, this is not directed at you, I have been wanting to ask this for a long time and it was simply the use of the word 'sincere' that reminded me)

Why do we in society hold sincerity to such a high moral standard? Many are sincere but it doesn't make them less evil does it? I find it so frustrating when people give praise to jw's who knock on doors because they are 'sincere'. So what? So were Hitler, Stalin,Tojo, Pol Pot, Kambanda, Hussein, Papa Doc, and numerous others, all evil, but sincere. Though to be fair most 'doors' do not realize that jw's need to give a report each month so they think they are going in fs simply for the love of God and neighbor. But even then they believe sincerity makes it all ok, they truly believe ..... Why then do we not hold that same standard to say, white supremist groups? they are sincere. Do you see where I am going here?

I see your point, sincerity in itself is not sufficient to determine evil or good intentions... those examples you mention are of 'sincerly' evil people... but their sincerity is misdirected because of their beliefs and/or agendas

But I certainly would not put in the same sentence the people you mention by name and any JW that knocks at my door trying 'sincerly' to 'save me'... the comparison is way way off...

Sincerity, just like faith, is useless without a proper foundation.

Perhaps because it is so rare in our society to meet someone who lives true to their values.

It's rare enough inside the Watchtower society. So many are motivated by fear (of death, of shunning) or greed (of the paradise to come), and are quite willing to live a "double life" away from the watchful eyes of their fellow congregants.

One can still challenge a sincere person on their closely held beliefs, but I believe the approach would be different. To discover that one's entire reason for living is a sham... is devastating.
