Hey all, I need some info on a couple of songs. First of all apologies for the dropouts and noise in the tracks. These cassettes are pushing 25 years of age!

The first one I recorded off the radio in November 1984. It's a piano piece called Pineapple Rag. I can find the Scott Joplin version, but this particular version has a female singing lyrics along with it. I would love to know exactly who is doing this version so I can track down the full recording:

The second one is a Country & Western song. I believe it's called "Down On The Bayou", but I may be slightly wrong. Anyway, it doesn't matter who's doing this version. I just need to know who wrote it. The original LP was at my parents place... before it burned down, so I have no way of checking it:

If you can help, I'll love you forever! :)

I am guessing Angela Lansbury on the Pineapple Rag. I will see if I can find info to confirm.

Best I can suggest is to compare the voices and see what you think:

Still searching I did manage to find the sheet music.... Joplin is the composer but Joe Snyder is the lyricist and it came out in 1910.

PDF of Original Sheet Music... file/jbq1vg

I still can't find the exact girl but.... Molly Watson does a version on her Bird in a Guilded Cage CD...

Here is a sampling... just click on Pine Apple Rag... http://www.rawrip.com/index.php?rr_pg=as_main&aid=8872

Your second link is broken..... but I recall Buck Owens had a tune by that name... lyrics below sound familiar?

Lots of gator on the bayou
    Big sharp teeth
    Move through the water
In the night like a thief
If you're down on the bayou and you lose your way
Gator gonna help you if you sing the right way
When you're down on the bayou better play what the gator wanna hear

Lots of snake on the bayou
    Poison as hell
    Hide in the bushes
    And the trees as well
If you're down on the bayou late at night
Snake won't bother if the beat is right
When you're down on the bayou better play what the snake wanna hear

Lots of people on the bayou
    You don't see
    Turn you into gator-bait
    And get away free
If you play on the bayou, make people dance
You see them shakin', fire ants in their pants
When you're down on the bayou better play what the people wanna hear

Thanks for all the help so far!

    - "Your second link is broken"

copy and paste it, or just ad a - to the end of the url. Something went goofy while linking it.

The second song doesn't have any lyrics, at least as far as I know.

But that copy of Pineapple Rag you found is very close! Not quite the same version, but it almost sounds like the same singer. Maybe one of them was a re-recorded version? And thanks for the sheet music. Maybe I can get my wife to learn how to play it ;)

If you know any of the lyrics, a site that may help is www.allbutforgottenoldies.com . You can navigate there for Google to search for possible titles of songs that match those lyrics.

Nos I know this is not exactly what you're looking for but this site has a guy singing the lyrics to Pineapple Rag:

    http://www.dizzler.com/index.search.dv8?q=pineapple+rag

Choose the song listed as Unknown - Pineapple Rag.aif.

BTW if you use Firefox you can download it.
