Is it about being able to fully control what is being done, is it due to the availability of essentially free labor or what???

It would seem to me that outsourcing this function would save them money and make them less reliant of volunteer labor, who could then be used in the field service rather than in the industrial environment.

Is there any printing still being done in Brooklyn?? In how many locations worldwide is printing done for the WTBTS, I know that they have some printing facilities in Canada, I would also assume that they have capacity worldwide.

With respect to the foriegn language publications, are all the pubs initially written in Brooklyn in English and then translated to the multitudes of other languages???

    Thanks.

Here was my response from JWS.....for those of you who don't skip back and forth.

    Control.

According to the 2008 Canadian Zone Talks, Canada is doing lots of foreign printing too (link below).

I think Canada is a good spot due to universal healthcare.

I suspect that outsourcing of printing will come, perhaps sooner rather than later, depending on how long the current economic situation lasts.

It would enable them to cut another 1000 or 2000 from the Bethel ranks, I would guess.

Isn't most or all of the printing done out at Walkill now instead of Brooklyn?

It used to be that magazines only were printed at Walkill, but they added presses for books up there from what I'd read.

Printing is very expensive, so it may be cheaper for them to do it themselves with slave labor rather than paying for it on the outside. As far as health insurance costs in the USA are concerned, I'm wondering if the WB&TS won't go to having home congregations of Bethelites sponsor the cost for it. Maybe that's why they're kicking out the older Bethelites and accepting younger ones. It would be easier for home congregations to swallow the cost of health insurance for young people than for older ones. That way they'l be getting slave labor for the price of room and board only. Or maybe they'll have the home congregations contribute toward the cost of room and board as well. After all, serving at Bethel is a privelage, isn't it?
