My Experience Impersonating a JW

A few days ago when I went to the mailbox a truck pulled up, a man jumped out and boldly anchored a political sign at the edge of my driveway.

He was about 8 feet away from me. I turned and said "I don't want your sign on my driveway!" It had really ticked me off that he stuck it in the ground in front of me without asking and like he had a right to do so.

He walked over to me and said.."Do you know (candidates name)?" and I said "No." He said "would you like to know (blabla name)?" as he held his hand out. I did not shake his hand. I thought he was too aggressive. I said "hello (candidates name). I still do not want your sign in my driveway!"

He said "Oh, I'm not (candidate's name)." (So now he had pulled a deceptive joke on me.) He said I am so and so. But I have a pamphlet to introduce you to (candidate). He stepped back toward his truck.

I said "I'm not interested." Then he started his rude hard sell. "How can you be a good citizen if your not interested in your community...blah blah"

His tactics were really pissing me off. So I let him have it with both barrels.

I said "WE ARE JEHOVAHS WITNESSES".

He took two steps backwards, held up his hand like he was stopping traffic, and said "Say no more!" He pulled up that sign so fast and without another word and jumped into his truck like a streak of lightening.

What a great line to fall back on when you are being treated rudely. Next time I want to stop a conversation, I know just what I will say!!!

It was like having a magic word to get rid of nuisance people!

I'm glad it worked for you. I mayself find it to be even more offensive to myself to say that I am a Jdub no matter what benefit it may provide.

I would have given him one opportunity to remove the sign before I did it. Then I would have ripped it out of the ground and flung it at him.

In some communities there are laws about putting up signs in public easements..meaning it cant be done without the property owners permission...

    I prefer non-agression.

The man's reaction was priceless...it was like I was a leper or something.

Why do they act that way? Do they think you are going to "talk them to death" or are they afraid of your biblical ideas?

I think he may be considering what you would to 'one-up' him.

You: Leave a tract at his door.

He: Post a sign on your front lawn.

You: Show up every Saturday morning at 6am with 2 pioneers to witness to him.

That would surely get *me* to back away - quickly and carefully.

what we get in our neighborhood from time to time is an open house for sale. The Realtor will usually cover the block with American Flags
