A pleasant couple showed up about 20 minutes ago. The man had stuffed the tract in the door as I had gone to get my shirt on. So I opened the door and summoned them back as they had started to walk away.
He was explaining the tract to me and I had a couple questions. I asked about prayer, and wanted to know what each of them had prayed for and Ghod had answered them on. This appeared to stump her. She managed to get out an answer. He had time to think about it and had an answer. Then I asked where they learned about prayer and the proper way to do it. They answered that it was from the Bible. I said that I studied the Bible too, and that one of my favorite places was on the internet at biblegateway.com because I can see many different translations side by side. I mentioned how translating committees have different methods, from transliterating to paraphrasing, and they have different results. If you use only one translation you will get locked in to the views of that translation commitee.
She mentioned about knowing the original Greek. I said that was very good, and mentioned how the Gospel of John and Revelation had different authors as one was written by someone who was well educated in Greek, and the other was authored by someone who like knew Greek as a second language. (thanks Leolaia!) Then I said I had been in churches where they actually insisted that they were written by the same person.
Then I handed the tract back, as I did not want a RV, and said I will continue to look for answers to those questions in the Bible. I thanked them both for stopping by, shook their hands, and wished them a pleasant day.
No UN bombs, pedophile scandals or any other unpleasantries. I was on good behavior. The literature is not strident like in the past, and I had to pull it out of them that they were JWs.
Got my "Truth" tract today

You handled them very gently, engaged them. A pretty decent householder you make, only thing is all those practise sessions on the school usually end in a study.

This is not good. It is a sign that they are getting at least a few wastes of paper out. And from what I hear, this time they are quite wimpy with the message.

So I guess they did not pull out the bible to show you the scriptures I take?

I think there main converts are the people who are illiterate.
I remember going on studies where the people could barely read and you can guarantee they did not understand anthing!
I was embarassed for them!
Good experience!

Not at all.
But then I have done studies where the JW did not open a Bible or any literature. We just talked.

dagdamit...I've sit here by myself day after day...today..my middle granddaughter is spending the day because there is no school..
then a friend stops by to have a cup of coffee..of course I can't properly get "caught up", 'cause the grandchild is running and jumping and being a kid.
then a JW woman comes by and hands a "truth tract" to me...says "all the questions on the front can be answered in the bible". I guess I was just a bit over whelmed at the moment...... I thanked her. She turned and left.
*sigh*
