    Is it wishful thinking?

    Is it unexplainable happenstance?

    Is it superstition?

Nevermind what WT says.....does Jesus uphold the idea of people receiving Divine Protection?

OK cam I'll have a go .Jesus once said to his disciples that they would always have the poor amongst them which shows no special attention to people from him. After he died a problem came up about the widows missing out and they realised this was not good ,but they still suffered till HUMAN intervention stepped in and not Jesus. We seem to just have to get on with life no matter what crap comes our way whether we are religious or not .What about the misery every day of 30,000 kids that die of starvation and disease in poor countries ,gentle Jesus is not helping them. And yet countless people come forward and say Jesus has helped them with this or that and yet their fat bloated bodies and minds live in countries rich in comparison to the poor ones where the kids die every day ,and every day. I had them flourish this rubbish at me when I'd go witnessing ,that they had prayed to gentle Jesus and he paid the electricity bill etc. I don't know of one account of divine protection for individuals in the bible that could be recociled with what I've said .Sorry about the formatting I'm using Firefox.

Wozadummy, thanks for that confirmation, though the imagery is hard to take.

What prompts this question is something I see as a conflict in scripture:

Zephaniah 2: 3 Seek ye Jehovah, all ye meek of the earth, that have kept his ordinances; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye will be hid in the day of Jehovah's anger.

Some clergy are now preaching (fiercely) about being under "God's protective tent".

(So where has this protective tent been all along when innocent children were sacrificed to Molech, and even now when children are dying of starvation without ever having a chance to live life or appreciate the beauty of creation? Why does "god" suddenly promise protection from his anger? Does this mean up until now we were experiencing his kindness?) Personally this seems like another fear-control mechanism.

And yet, according to some scriptures like this one, Jesus points out that there will be no justice for the righteous, nor divine protection from suffering:

Rev. 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

So, how can this big difference between OT..(inspired words 'directly from god' ) be reconciled with what appears to be a more truthful version of reality, suffering, and injustice in the NT?

Why do church christians think they are more deserving of this divine protection than anyone else?
