The WT does not approve of any of the friends selling shorts, unless they are Bermuda shorts with the logo on the rear "The Big A is coming!"
although in my case it would look as though a Big A had just passed.

Don't do any short selling lest you become like the merchants in Revelation who mourn the demise of Babylon the Great.

Flip side of being long
Bulls use it as insurance
Working just shorts is hard work
Requires a lot of homework
Given a bad rap since the
uptick rule was thrown out
It's all a gamble -

I hate short people too, but I do think selling them is wrong!

When you think about Short Selling, I would think that this would be encouraged by most JWs, especially those who hope that things will collapse soon.
When you invest "long" and hope for the stocks to increase in value, you are looking forward to making more money in the future.
Short selling is basically borrowing the stock from a broker, selling it, and hoping the stock falls in value. Then, buying the stock back at a later date when it has fallen in value and returning it to the broker.
So the doom and gloom people would likely think that selling short makes sense.

Instead of investing in worldly stuff like the stock market, you're supposed to give it the WTBS; which is a sure bet because its the same as giving it to God for safe keeping.

I don't think the Society has ever said anything on it. I do know that the Society invests millions in the stock market, and it's highly possible that they engage in short selling which is nothing more than gambling. I also know that the Society would not want to do anything to stop the few ultra-rich dubbies from making money, including short sale strategies.
