AKA how to gloss over/lie about your history.

Hurd starts off trying to sell the idea that the Bible students were unsure of what would supposedly happen in 1914. This is a double lie.

    • First, they were not in doubt. :

But bear in mind that the end of 1914 is not the date for the beginning, but for the end of the time of trouble. -Zion's Watch Tower 1894 Jul 15 p.226

    • Second, they thought Jesus was already King:

The year A.D. 1878 … clearly marks the time for the actual assuming of power as King of kings, by our present, spiritual, invisible Lord - … -The Time is At Hand (1911 ed) p.239

All that preaching and literature that he brags about? Any one of those publications would get you Disfellowshipped for apostasy today. Such light!

    Sam Herd:

At the Kingdom's birth in 1914, the Bible Students were not exactly sure what was going to happen but they knew it would be a pivotal year. For decades they had been singing that the Gentile Times were closing and that the kings had had their day.

I found it odd that he said that they had been SINGING this. Does anyone know if there is some significance to this? Are they trying to phrase thins in a way that would be technically correct but misleading?

They're the words from the kingdom song 'Be Glad you Nations with his People'. Don't know if that's significant at all. Pretty sure it's not a pre - 1914 song, I'm not that old.

What is surprising is that I remember it after being out for 27 years. That's indoctrination for you!

Perhaps they are are targeting people who remember the song and are thinking how much longer to the end?

    Who knows!

The Video starts off with a reenactment, with a letter reading and what sounds like The Battle Hymn of the Republic in the back ground.
