Well I just found out my 18 year old grandson has been accepted to Saint Louis University and is getting a $15,000. scholarship!

Next he will be applying for the full scholarship...Hope he gets it.

I guess they really really want him...he just got 34 on his SAT test.

He sure didn't get his brains from me!!!!

Well for all his intelligence..he is a big Momma's boy. He likes being pampered and is VERY lazy..he didn't want to go too far away from home. He still has to stay on campus the first year but I bet he will make a lot of trips home for a while..It is only maybe 45 minutes to a hour drive home.

Now his sister on the other hand has no desire to stay by her home..she wants get away from her parents and go to California..she will graduate in 2010. She, unlike her brother, will be lucky if the colleges want her!...The class she does best in is "Cheerleading" and boys and shopping...

I hope he can get a bit more help, Snoozy. As I recall SLU's sticker price is about $35,000. I'm not sure what his family's circumstances are. If they have any financial need, there'll be some help there. There are a few other things he can do as well...

-Identify any "special circumstances" in his case. (Unusually high private school tuition payments, unusually high family medical or dental expenses, parents in the process of separation or divorce, etc.) Special circumstances can possibly increase his financial aid package.

-If the first offer is not pretty extraordinary, he can always appeal. In so doing, it will not rescind the original offer--and they may consider increasing it. Happens all the time. It will require a pretty effective appeal letter, written fairly quickly after receiving his award letter from SLU.

A 34 is an absolutely terrible score for the SAT, considering the highest you can get is 2400... So I'm sure you must be referring to the ACT. And, yessirrebob, with 36 being the highest possible, that's an amazing ACT score! Not surprised they're kicking in with a scholarship.

    You should be proud.

My 19-year old is a junior in college. She scored 32-ACT and 2124-SAT.

She received a full ride; we didn't have to pay anything.

For what it's worth, Harvard was willing to do a set-aside for her, but she said no.

That's a fantastic ACT score. My son is in the process of sending out applications. He received a 30 ACT still considered very good. His first choice is NYU, he applied Early Decision so will see what happens. Very exciting for all of us!
