I haven't been here in several weeks. That may a good thing, time for me to behave myself.
Congratulations to the United States of America. Good for you - status quo has taken a backseat to complacency and fear.
Socialism? You right-wingers make me laugh. People whom never travelled out of their own borders/Fox tells you what to do? Right? No! OK, sorry. The askewed view of it, outside of the U.S. makes me howl with laughter more often than not. Geez!!
On the afternoon of Tuesday, November 4, 2008. A dear friend of mine and I drove to the extreme southwestern region of Ontario (Windsor). My friend, he grew-up in Windsor, Ontario. He saw the riots in the mid-late 1960s and the fires burn from Canada. DETROIT, burning...and burning! So sad.
Not anymore!
40 years later. He said to me; listening to WJR 760 AM - 'Look, it's not burning now!'
Listening to the radio reports bit by bit courtesy of the Detroit AM stations (WJR 760/WWJ 950) as the results poured in, as we sat on the banks of the Detroit River (Canadian side of the river) - was magical. The weather (that day in Southern Ontario and most of the Lower Great Lakes, was phenominal) was perfect to say the least.
Around 11:00 P.M. - the text messages were coming constantly one after the other on my cellphone from friends in the U.S. and Canada and yes, even the U.K.. It was like.....WOW! Beyond WOW!
HISTORY!? Indeed!
It was nice to hear on the two AM stations in Detroit, that Mr. Barack Obama was declared the President of the most powerful nation on the planet. WOW!
Even for us, as Canadians, we were humbled by it.
Our election? F**king boring and uninteresting to say the least. You Americans outdid us, rightfully so!!
It was late. My friend and I drove back to Toronto.
As we headed back onto the 401 - we tuned into WBBM 780 AM eminating out of Chicago. We listened to President-Elect Obama's acceptance speech.
What can I say?
It moved me!!
The skies headed back to Toronto were gorgeous - the sky full of stars I haven't seen because of urban incandescent blight. Essex-Kent-Elgin county skies were crystal clear - and to hear Barack Obama's voice booming across the airwaves - yes...was magic!!

My buddy and I grasped each others hands during a 'part' of his (President-elect Obama's) speech.
Driving back to Toronto - was the best 'back-home' drive late at night I've participated in recent memory.
Almost 2 weeks later.
