Having seen Steve Miller in concert at least twice, last time as recently as a few months ago - he is way past his pompatus years. The dude is ancient!

I don't think he had any pompatus years. They were a figment of his wishful imagination. This was the only song by him that I tolerated. We love to joke about him thinking Fly Like An Eagle is as profoundly important and has the same impact as Stairway to Heaven. He was silly fluff and he was never a god.
