The bible in my own understanding and others is just a gathering of ancient manuscripts of ancient mythology and of course written history,

and nothing more, it documents well the history of human ignorance as it logicaly should.

Nevertheless people seem to think its a connection to the spiritual world and the God of the universe.

Why is it then that people separate that human ignorance of what mankind was living 2, 3000 years ago and then wholeheartedly

take it as some sort of spiritual wisdom and truth, when there is so much real wisdom and truth coming out of are universities and collages.

Maybe its a case of ignorance has no where else to go but to support itself from other ignorance.

The biggest sin may actually be not realizing and accepting are given human ignorance and demeaning of are potential

of the understanding of ourselves and the world we live in.

Some Xians believe the fact that different cultures across the globe have creation or flood stories with some similarities is proof that those stories are true. Divinity must have implanted the stories in human beings.

Different individuals across the globe have concluded, independent of each other, that the Bible was merely one of humanity's many attempts to explain mysterious things in a prescientific world. If the fact that unrelated people can independently believe things means it's probably true, then......

But again it goes back to human ignorance regarding great floods , earthquakes , solar eclipse etc.

Primitive people did not know what was causing these catastrophic events so the they placed the cause and meaning

that a god was behind these things and it was not just that way only in the ancient Middle Eastern area either,

it was that way all over where ancient cultures existed.

It was for that reason culture like the Egyptians, Aztec, Mayans just name a few believed that the gods and spirits resided in the skies above.

Many ancient cultures believed that the Sun was a God of the universe and the servant angels were the thousands of stars in the sky.

Why doesn't human ignorance come into the equation when discussing theology ?

I'm not a Christian, but I will take issue with your assessment of the Bible, Homer. I am aware of the myths and contradictions it contains. However ...

It is literature and contains some history. Perhaps even more important, it is a window into past ways of thinking and believing that is instructive for us today. Among those who are well balanced mentally and spiritually, I think it can still be a useful basis for religious belief. I am glad that we have the Bible and real Biblical Scholarship today. I think that the greatest disservice done to the Bible is its current treatment by Fundamentalists as a literal, inerrant history.

Indeed, it is a grave mistake to treat mythic realities as scientific mental-rational truths.

Literature......from L. lit(t)eratura "learning, writing, grammar.....so in that sense you are right. Whether or not it provides a window into the thoughts of "the"people of that age.....I guess it pertains especially to those who wrote and manipulated the text depending on the message they wanted to get across.

However, it is a product of the time in which it has been written and manipulated and therefore reflects it's ignorance. In this day and age we have a natural explanation for many of the mystic events the bible relates. Thunder? No such thing as a God driven thunder....

    Cheers
