My granddaughter said the prayer at the dinner table

Our 6-year old granddaughter had just gotten over a bout of scarlet fever. Clyde and I were at her house and so was her other grandparents. Her other grandfather is a ministerial servant but not very zealous and not a bit judgmental--thankfully. The rest of us are totally inactive.

Our son asked her to say the prayer. For a second I was shocked. I thought...little girls are not supposed to say the prayer when there is a man present (there were 3 men), and she certainly has no head covering. Then I was shocked at myself. It's been ten years now since I left the organization (at least mentally) and this stupid rule would flash through my mind!

Her prayer was so sweet. She simply said, "Jehovah, thank you for this day of life and for this meal and for the love that we have in our family and how they took care of me when I was sick--in Jesus name, Amen!"

    I was almost in tears.

That's so sweet. Children are always so honest with their prayers. Gotta love that.

We let our children pray all the time. My husband is so afraid to leave the org. I've been ready to go. My eight year old daughter prays over dinner, so does my son. No, we don't make her cover her head, and now my husband even wants me to pray sometime. Very unconventional Jehovah's Witness, but I believe it draws us closer to hear what everyone is praying for.

That is so beautiful. Children (not old men!) are the direct line to god.

    very sweet and touching.

I was raised Catholic and we(all family members) took turns every night saying prayer before dinner.

God is great, God is good, let us thank him for our food! Amen

Before bedtime, Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my Soul to keep, If I should Die before I wake I pray the Lord my Soul to take. Amen
