Our 6-year old granddaughter had just gotten over a bout of scarlet fever. Clyde and I were at her house and so was her other grandparents. Her other grandfather is a ministerial servant but not very zealous and not a bit judgmental--thankfully. The rest of us are totally inactive.
Our son asked her to say the prayer. For a second I was shocked. I thought...little girls are not supposed to say the prayer when there is a man present (there were 3 men), and she certainly has no head covering. Then I was shocked at myself. It's been ten years now since I left the organization (at least mentally) and this stupid rule would flash through my mind!
Her prayer was so sweet. She simply said, "Jehovah, thank you for this day of life and for this meal and for the love that we have in our family and how they took care of me when I was sick--in Jesus name, Amen!"
I was almost in tears.
