After a very bad spain I want to get an ankle support for when I start training again. I just want to know if someone has trained with a support (usually elasticated) and if it helps.

If you start training again I would suggest you listen to your body go easy and short periods of time at first. If you go at it long and hard endorphins can kick in and you might not know that you are injuring yourself even more. Also one time I went skiing with an ace bandage on a knee injury. When I go back to the lodge and looked at my leg and my calf huge. I thought I was going to have to go to the doctor. I must have had the bandage on too long and too tight and the lower half of my leg had fill up with water or blood. I think it was water. It looked really bad but it was gone by morning so I never went to the doctor so I don't know what had happened. That is the extent of my knowledge on the subject.

Not a doctor here (nor do I play one on TV)

Look up the pysical therapy exercises (there is tons of this stuff online) and do them. A sprain will need some work getting flexibility and extenstion back in the soft tissue etc.

Seems the trend today is to stay away from elastic, braces etc unless the joint really needs the support (damage to structure)... wraps and braces tend to cause atrophy if overused or used improperly.

Stretching ...walking .....start slow and dont overdo it....

The sprain was 2 months ago, it's 98% better, swells up & aches a tad if I've done lots of walking.

thats pretty normal if you had a bad tear. Ice and asprin works too. I have had sprains and soft tissue tears of the ankles knees shoulders and back and hip over the years.

    broken bones heal easier.

keep at it... a good sprain will cause problems for a year or more ......
