The "science" of creation is embarrassing and rightfully derided and ignored. An argument for 'god did it' is an argument for ignorance!
I noticed that they have listed about twice as many positive reviews than negative ones at http://www.arn.org/expelled/
In reality it is the other way around.
Hooberous, thanks for reminding me that this movie is now available. I am downloading it to see it for myself.
Dave
I was finally able to see this movie.
This isn't about science and the Theory of Evolution. It's about Ben Stein's belief in God. Sure, at the beginning of the movie Ben is presenting this as a purely scientific matter, as if there is a conspiracy in the establishment against those who don't adhere to the dogma of strict Darwinianism. Perhaps Ben should have stuck to this theme and presented some of the supposedly heretical science that is causing the individuals he interviewed to lose their jobs. Show us some of this "good science" that is being discriminated against, Ben!
No, unfortunately Ben takes us on a tour of social Darwinism, eugenics, and the Holocaust, all while conveniently forgetting that humans have always found excuses, including a belief in a loving God, to do harm to their fellow humans. The unspoken but clearly implied idea is that moral values are based on belief in God, and the Theory of Evolution leads to atheism, moral decay, and the devaluation of human life. I found it particularly disgusting that he used the Holocaust of WWII, Hitler, and Nazism in an attempt to prove his point. Hey, I thought this was supposed to be about science, Ben?
I didnt' think Richard Dawkins gave a good interview. I enjoyed him read the passage in his book about the God of the Old Testament. Ben Stein, being Jewish, probably didn't appreciate it, though. When pressed for an idea about where life came from, Richard should not have mentioned extra terrestrial intelligent life, which implies "intelligent design." Richard simply didn't want to be the one to say "I don't know." Isn't that the crux of the issue? One person says, "I know how this came about: it was designed." Another person says, "I don't know how this came about. I'm going to look deeper until I find an explanation."
Sorry, Ben, not even polished production values can save this one. "Expelled" = Failed.
