Do hopeless people's lives suck in some way?

I found that I have faith in nothing (refering to another post). I'm happy without it. My life doesn't suck in most ways, so why would I need hope? Hope for what? Hope is the expectation that something bad will change to something good. Faith is like the expectation of changing something bad for something good at the hand of another. It doesn't have to be a change but something that is trusted. Know what I mean?

I don't think that being hopeless is a bad thing if your life is going where you want it to be. I can understand faith in one's self, though. Could faith be similar to trust?

White Dove, I know what you mean, I'm OK with not knowing what is going to happen next. I do have a trust in myself that I am a good person, I really can't control anything else. If there is so much argument, contradiction and variables about the future even among what JW believe why worry so much about it. I think our viewpoint makes you enjoy everyday, every moment more than ever.

Well, do people need hope to be happy? What if your life is just fine the way it is and you don't need to look to a higher source for change in it?

I am happy. I have things to look forward to but I would not call it hope. ( I do hope I have enough wine to last me through the rest of the weekend). But I agree I think you can be fulfilled and happy with ordinary everyday endeavors.

Many agnostics and atheists I talked to as a JW were very much at peace with what they didn't know. I was always impressed by that.

That's exactly what I mean. Religion of some kinds will make people believe that their lives suck so they need the church, kingdom hall, or other some such building. I see an advertising gimick here! Create a need then fill it. I see some religions as marketers who do this. They make people believe that without this or that (savior and sinning), your life is miserable, where it wasn't before people met the religious zealot.

I'm going to quit here because I think my thread is overlapping another about faith.

Well, you can do that. But though related, faith and hope are different. For most of us, its just a matter of what to have faith in, and what are you hoping for. (Another great observation by Captain Obvious! )

I think its a good discussion to have.

Faith and hope are 2 very different things.

Hope is that light at the end of the tunnel - I have hope that my brother will get back on track with his life and I'll be there to help him. I hope for a better government. We all hope that this recession will pass and that we'll come out okay at the end of it.

One does't need to attach hope & faith to a religious connotation.
