Hi Everyone, While you're out and about shopping please stop by Circuit City and record (video) a holiday message for our fellow countrymen in the military who will not be home with us to share in the joy of the season. Let them know they are loved and appreciated and that we wish/hope/pray for their safe return. Several friends and I recorded one this week-the line moved fast.

    More details: http://www.messagefromamerica.com/public.html

Go to any Circuit City store between November 26th and December 31st and videotape your holiday wishes and messages of support for the extraordinary men and women serving overseas in the United States military. Some of these messages will be broadcast on CBS prime time television and copies will be provided to the U.S.O. and Armed Forces Network so that they may be shown to our military personnel abroad. For family members with a valid military ID, your personal message will be recorded onto a DVD, for you to send to your loved ones serving our country. We are proud to provide this service free of charge.

    Seven,

When those boy's get your message attached to your video, they may want to come home real soon...just to visit you island lady!

No kidding, that was a kind and generous gesture. I talk on a regular basis with many soldier's, some having served in Vietnam. What seem's to be the most powerful encouragement for them, is the knowledge that American's at large, are in support of their efforts. Most of the drug abuse, fraging, disobeying of order's, desertion during the Vietnam conflict, was attributed to the overt non-support and outright opposition to the war...and particularly anyone in uniform at the time.

    Good for you.

Remember the thousands of holiday cards sent by Americans to those in uniform during Desert Storm? I believe it was called "Operation Mail Call." There were enough cards sent that every soldier received a pile of mail to open on Christmas day. They loved the pictures the school children drew for them and reading the letters from those "Americans at large." I hope these videos let them know that they are appreciated and are always in our thoughts.

    Seven,

Yes I remember that mail campaign. It's really fun for anyone to get a handwritten letter, even from a complete stranger....at least it is for me.

I suppose talking about giving support to our military, probably still rubs the conscience of some of our fellow ex-jw's, and I can undertand that for sure.

The more you shed the scales of watchtowerism, the more ridiculous their stand on participation in the military appears. So much of the freedom's JW's now enjoy, were predicated on the sacrifices of those who fought in the past. Iam refering clear back to our own domestic squables of the 1860's.

I always try and show support for those who have put their lives on the line, including police, fire and emergency personnel...they deserve the respect. Not to mention the overwhelming majority of these guys, are down to earth and can be very loyal friends and neighbors.

    I almost missed this thread.

What an excellent idea. Thank you for bringing it up. Circuit City just bought up some of the electronic chains up here, I'll see if they are tying it in with our US cousins.

IF not, I will be down in the States soon, and will record one then.

    Thanks again Seven.

    Hey Seven,

Fine Idea! There's several military families (or relations) on our forum. Yeru is in Columbia, SC, and Tina's son is in the Army, I think.

Patriot was in the military, and I'm sure there's others I don't know about. Sorry if I missed anyone.

It still IS a new idea to me to think & talk about military things - and not automatically apply negatives. We have a lot of military in our store, many being shipped in/out right now. In general, fine folks.
