Did you not know that many scientiests consider themselves "co-creators with god"?

Have you not realized, that the "New Earth" is the one which will be co-created by humans as humans become god?

    unfortunate word choice there...

only for little people like you and me who do not have the beauty and brillance to be selected for the future evolutionary genepool.

Anyone who follows science or technology news must be aware by now of today’s announcement that scientists have synthesized the entire genome of a bacterium, a huge step towards creating synthetic life. One bacterium may not sound all that impressive on the face of it, but considering that the infinitely less complex virus is all that we could piece together before today, this looks pretty damn good.

There seem to be a lot of people made uncomfortable by the entire idea of genetic manipulation. They say we shouldn’t “play god,” that we’re not meant to modify the natural order. These people are wrong. Completely. No merit to the position whatsoever. It’s based on the faulty assumption that nature was designed (it wasn’t - creationism of all sorts is bullshit, and if you’re honest with yourself, you know it) and the assumption that life is some magical, mystical thing not to be trifled with. Reality check: life is an evolutionary quirk, a biological process that just happened to give rise to consciousness. It’s not some destiny for humanity - we just got lucky. There is no reason we shouldn’t improve on what is essentially a randomly pieced-together process that doesn’t even get carried out properly a large part of the time. I, for one, think that life needs to be lived, not forever revered in stunned intellectual immobility.

    Item Three: Evil Scientists

    From the Times article:

But there are concerns that synthetic biology could be used to make pathogens, or that errors by well-intended scientists could produce organisms that run amok. The genome of the smallpox virus can in theory now be synthesized using the techniques reported on Thursday, since it is only about one-third the size of the genome manufactured by Dr. Venter’s group.

    From the Times:

Some activist groups say Dr. Venter is going too far, too fast, this time, and that the entire field of synthetic biology needs outside regulation to prevent the introduction of dangerous organisms, created either by evil intent or by innocent error.

“The fact that he’s pushing ahead with this without any societal oversight is very worrying,” said Jim Thomas, a program manager at the ETC Group, an activist group based in Canada. He also said it was worrisome that Dr. Venter was applying for very broad patents that could give him a near monopoly over the field of synthetic organisms.

    ---------

Seems I have read some stories of scientists who thought they were working for the good of mankind, but somewhere along the way, a controlling power took over the project and turned it's use to evil.

It happens all the time. There is a greater power running the show. Scientists have been deceived, their work has been seized, and their efforts have been revamped for the destruction of mankind.

The future of genetics is not to help those who are sick or disabled. It is to breed stock from the "select" few to create a super human race. It is the new evolution of mankind.
