I acquired the following scans of a couple of pages of "Studies In the Scriptures" Vol 3 "Thy Kingdom come"

See what he makes of The Great Pyramid

Opposite page 332 is the following chart, printed sideways

You can see the same chart in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Piazzi_Smyth

It seems to me, although it was not attributed to anybody else on the page of the book, it is the work of Charles Piazzi Smyth. The Wikipedia article makes interesting reading.

    I have also a scan of pages 362 & 363

This gives some prophecy and measurements within the pyramid. It is interesting that the measurements are not in standard linear measurement. They used something called "pyramid inches". This was apparently invented by C P Smyth and was equal to 1.001 inches. A small difference but significant over the long lengths measured.

Imagine: If you know the size of a building , and you know the dates that you want to arrive at , it would not be difficult to "discover" the unit of measurement that "proves" your theory correct?

    Or am I missing something??

Charles Smyth's book was the one that got C. Russell engaged into this unscientific theory that the great pyramid

held within its measurements the chronology of god's purpose for mankind, another distinctive source of plagiarism of ideology by Russell.

But nevertheless a salable one in his mind that had to be exploited and utilized.

Here is a picture of Smyth's tombstone , see any resemblance to Russell's ?

That's an interesting picture Hom. I wonder which one died first? Who copied who?

At least you and I find this topic noteworthy

Smythe came first. If I recall correctly, Russell had Smythe review his measurements and calculations. He then reported gleefully that only a couple of minor corrections had to be made - which said nothing about his whole theory.

The discovery of this nonsense in the course of doing our research was one of the things that convinced my wife and I that this religion was a crock.

Russell "reporduced" Smyth's Great Pyramid diagram but left out the information concerning the measurements of the "descending passage."! This is strange as Russell's calculations DEPENDED upon those measures!

Why did Russell choose to omit this information when reprinting Smyth's drawing?

Here is the original as it appeared in Smyth's book.

Russell knew his "Pyramid Chronology" was on a weak foundation and tried to cover it up by obtaining an "endorsement" from Smyth!

In more recent edtions Russell actually changed the Great Pyramid measurements without informing the reader that a change had been made from the values in previous editions.

He still kept Smyth's endorsement in the book although Smyth never had never seen the new numbers having died years before in 1900.

So, Russell changed the numbers and kept the endorsement. What would you call a person who did that?
