JWs, Mormons, and Evangelicals look more to the Bible than "practical experience and common sense". JW's most strongly so. As this survey documents, they've been trained to relegate individual common sense to an unquestionable group religious authority.

They are also the LEAST likely to trust scientific information.

I'm not surprised. I finally learned to trust my instinct in things and found that it was right all along. It was trained by "practical experience and common sense." Thank you for this thread. It's a good one.

I guess you would categorize me as an "evangelical" so I feel I can comment. The statement suggests that the two are at odds with each other but my belief is that the best source for practical advise and common sense is the bible (and the Holy Spirit).

    All the best,

I believe the Pew survey was addressing that very point... for most religious folks, their Bible beliefs coincide nicely with their "practical experience and common sense". BUT... if you find yourself in a situation where what you believe from the Bible conflicts with your common sense and practical experience, which would you rely on? For JW's, Mormons, and Evangelicals, they'll ignore their common sense and go with what the Bible says.

Not that there's anything wrong with that...
