I just received my copy and am only on about pg 20 but I think you guys would enjoy it enormously!! It is funny and even a non jw would understand the workings of dubland. So far I highly recommend it and am anxious to hear what the ex jw's here have to say about it.

Yes, tell her a non jw married to a recent convert is enjoying it very much!!! Too bad I have to read it in snippets due to living with a jw! otherwise I would sit and read the whole thing at one throw!
After finishing it I would say if books had a rating it would be an R rating due to language and sexually explicit content. The beginning was funny, smurfs, etc... all things I had read here. I believe the author had other problems that were not addressed and/or exasberated by jw upbringing. Her story too is like some we have seen here, person leaves the jw's and thinks worldly people are immoral and attempts to imitate what they think is worldly behavior. The thing is I don't know many (if any) people who actually act the way jw's think worldly people act and worldly people would be just as shocked as jw friends & family by the same behavior.
She is like the girl in high school or the one who never outgrew the need to manipulate by using shock and drama. Maybe all the self induced drama is the only way they can really feel love, they don't feel loved so any attention is welcome. I wish the author love and peace. (not to say all drama is self induced)
My disappointment it that it started out so well and I was hoping to pass it along to family & friends so they could see how growing up in the jw life can affect one. I can't pass this along to Mom though, just a bit much. I would definitely not pass it along to a person fading or one who just left the jw's! they would probably camp out at the kh and become the most zealous jw in the cong after reading it! it would scare them right back to a kh if they thought all jw's who left ended up living her life.
I do wish the author well and hopes she has found happiness. Could she write a PG book for worldly people to understand dubland?
She is having a book signing in Providence RI on March 20. She's on facebook... I got an invitation there. I haven't read it yet...

Don't get me wrong I did enjoy the book overall. Most here would not have a problem with it at all except for the language & sex scenes, some may cringe at that. I was just hoping to pass it along to family. I was telling them how funny it was in the beginning and hoping to have kids read a non doctrinal/jw scandal/etc.. type of book about jw's. As you know some books about jw's you need a minimum working knowledge of jw's to begin with. When I first started my research about jw's it was difficult because first you had to know what they believed & why to understand why there even needed to be a book say about 1914 or whatever. She did a good job telling a few doctrinal points in a short and simple way that a non jw would understand who has not been on the ex jw boards for years!
Who knows? maybe the R rating will increase sales! you know it works that way sometimes or so it seems. And I suppose some things cannot be explained in a sanitized way. I wish her success and peace.
I also started a thread on this book. I thought the was boring. I agree Carla, she had other issues like a chemical imbalance. I also would not recomend it to any one fading. I thought possibly I could pass it on to my daughter but its not that kind of book.
I have read better stories on this forum and found some of the best JW humor on this forum. I'm sorry I spent $2400 on this book. I am sorry to have to give her book such a poor rating but this forum is a much better read.
