Hmm, what happened in 2008 that could be a pivotal date that would be the beginning of the end? The same thing that happened in 1929? Not to mention, if they pick 2008, where does that leave 607 BCE? Does that become 513 BCE?

I remember the dubs getting all excited about how that was going to be pivotal as well, but here we are several years later, that's old news and they're now getting all excited about the latest front page news dealing with the bad economy.
Dubs are a like a dog that chases its tail and can't quite get it. They've been sold a bill of goods, but they can't admit they've hoodwinked so they continue to read into every negative thing that happens that somehow it ties into some ancient prophecy. When this latest crisis becomes old news and the world continues to turn, they'll turn their attention to then latest negative thing to happen.
The Society, on the other hand, can't drop 1914. They're too tied into to it. If they drop that date as significant, then flocks of dubs will wake up and leave. The Society will continue to re-create their doctrine around the core dates and prophecies and most dubs will continue to be hoodwinked.

Why not 2008? It is just as good as any other date they pull out of the ass of the Composite Man of Predictions.
They can do some hocus pocus numerology and figure out how some events at some ancient date way back were the antitype and that....therefore "it suggests that 2008 is the typical date and the significance deserves our attention...blah, blah, blah...."
