I know my tale for today that I am about to spin is not at all a "bad day" in comparison to what many of you are going through on a daily basis. Please don't think by posting today's story that I am minimizing your day. Just thought the humor and irony of mine might bring a smile to you all. that is..if you can get through the long post...lol......No animals were harmed in the making of this day.
Today is a school day. I knew it was going to be a busy one. I had a test in geography at 1 and a mid term for macroeconomics to take late this afternoon/evening. I got up and first thing I noticed...I forgot to plug in the electric toothbrush. On a scale of 1 to 10 it doesn't even rank a 1, I know. Went looking for the old fashioned kind in my supplies... started running late because I was checking email, checking online courses, and playing some silly Facebook game some JWNers sucked me into..lol
I needed to be at school by 925 and it was already 915. By the time I got there and found a parking space about half mile walk away and three flights of stairs, I knew I would be late. I pulled out of the drive slowwwly...because the neighbor (yes, that neighbor) has a bush in the right of way that obscures the view. I back out a bit more...the neighbor has chosen to park one of his two vehicles half on the street and half in his yard (rather than parking both vehicles in his driveway, a$$hole). Blocking my view completely of traffic, which is residential and light..but people come over the crest of the hill fast sometimes... like today. The street at that point is only about 18 feet wide. How do I know this? The cop measured it. (Yeah, it gets better).
So I continue to back out slowly, coast is clear, so I think. I am now on the street, out of the driveway, shifting to go forward and >>>>BLAM<<<< someone has hit me in the rear. Dammit. Coffee spilled out of the travel mug, everything out of the cubby hole from the dashboard....conveniently scattered on the floorboard, joining its companions from the front seat of the car down there...a real reunion....a jumbled mixture of CDs, cell phone, registration and insurance card (wow, right on top where I can get to it, nice ), and other misc junk. All one big happy floorboard family now.
I get out of the car, some young guy gets out, dont know how this is going to go. White guy's car hit by a black guy in a black 'hood. All is cool, he was decent and so was I. We exchange information and I call the police (required when damages are over $500 in this state). The guy is running late too...for class..same college...lives 2 blocks away from me. Cop arrive 10 minutes later, takes our info. Here is an interesting insight for a white boy: The kid is worried something stupid is going to pop on his background check even though he has nothing in his record.... poor guy. I am worried too, a drug dealer that shares my first and last name (diff middle initial) is in the system. Nothing to worry about, we both came back clean. The kid gets a report and is sent on his way. Me, not so lucky. I got the ticket (improper backing....wtf? I was already out of the drive....but someone has to get the ticket..today it is my turn.) At least I kept my license.
The ticket is $75 if I plead guilty and sign and pay. $125 if I go down to the city clerk and plead guilty and take a suspended sentence. Huh. Instead, I call one of those traffic attorneys. For a mere $159 on VISA, they will take care of it all. The fee goes down to $75-100 depending on the prosecutor's mood, I plead not guilty, the ticket goes to suspended or something and goes away not on my record. $259 so far.
Insurance has a $500 deductible.... $759...insurance pays the other $543 of the $1043 damages.....which includes a nice rear bumper ($120), Impact Bar (guess its a one use only deal...$60)... and a Energy absorber from Japan (also one time use...$255)...did you know that the little name insignia for CIVIC is $20 and the LX is $9? who'd a thunk....its cheper to replace than pay labor to scrape the glue off... plus paint, labor, etc...
Also have a brake issue that needs maintenance (ongoing)..that is prob another $300.....so much for paying off that credit card anytime soon.
Hell for all of that.. I could have gone to the Bahamas dammit on Spring Break next week.,
oh well, all that before 1pm.... the rest is not so much.... I am headed to bed,,...maybe Friday the 13th will be better.

oh wait...I forgot the best part...I get to school at 1015, with 10 minutes left in my history class...run across half mile of black top, across the courtyard, up 3 flights of stairs (all while carrying/rolling my rolling briefcase)....turn the corner..the classroom is dark...what, early release? NO... class cancelled due to instructor "illness". I could have stayed home!
