We want to get a treadmill and after reading up on them have decided that the Wall*Mart / Canadian Tire type cheapo ones are probably false economy so want to get something a bit better but under $2000

I've been reading good reviews on both Sole and Smooth brands but don't know if this is just good internet marketing. Has anyone used either of these?

It would probably be something like a Sole F80, F83 or F85 or a Smooth 6.45M if that helps ...

We had a pretty good one in the UK that was folding with power-foldup and a good speed and incline (got it on sale at Argos for half-price and sold if for more than we paid when we moved!).

Find what you like... then go to Craigslist.com.

I agree... the Walmart models are most likely build so cheap they won't last.

I also thought about buying one but then decided it would be more cost effective to sign up for a gym membership. (If I don't keep it up I won't be out $1000+ with an eye-sore in the house)

I agree with Elsewhere... buy a good quality model second-hand. People dump exercise equipment after the novelty wears off; their loss is your gain!
