Invitations to the Memorial, passing out pamphlets

    I wondered what would happen if 10% of those who received them, turned up? in fact if only 2.5% turned up, our Kingdom Hall would not cope as it would mean in excess of another 250 people coming, even 1% would be another 100 and we couldn't cope. Does the society, have a means of guestimating the percentage that may turn up for every 1000 leaflets distributed? or is it just busy work for the publishers?

    Ding ding ding ding! We have a winner!

    Same issue with the invitations to the district conventions (they're doing that again this year, like in 2007). If just the tiniest fraction of people actually accepted the invitation to go to the DC, traffic would be snarled for miles, there would be no parking spaces, building capacity would be exceeded, hotels would be overbooked, etc.

    The Society doesn't give a rat's patootie if anybody (outside of JWs) actually attends - these "special campaigns" are just gambits to get inactive / irregular publishers out pressing doorbells again.

    Notice how the "special campaigns", even if only 3 or 4 weeks, always stretch across 2 calendar months? That way "Joe & Suzy Inactive" get to report time for 2 months. In the 3rd month, it's more likely they will succumb to pressure to "keep their momentum up".

    Yep, busy work. Just like the rest of field service. There are much better, more efficient, less annoying ways to reach people these days than knocking on their doors.

    I got this in an email from a JW discussion board,

    Even they are asking the questions about the effectiveness of it.

    The gyst was it's a good idea but are people really coming?

    It's like any other monastic work. It is designed to waste people's time so they cannot enjoy their lives doing what they want to do. Keep them busy doing a work that is supposed to "save" lives when all it does is dooms them to stagnation.

    It just makes them feel these occasions are more important and that it is more important for them to be there.

    Each new 'special campaign' is supposed to;

    1. keep the publishers busier than normal
    2. build a feeling of excitement
    3. generate a feeling of spiritual industry
    4. pass another month where the publishers aren't actually talking to the householders about anything in particular

    I think that the publishers are getting wise to all these 'special campaigns' and the 'buzz' - if there genuinely was any - has worn off long ago. Also, I think it's interesting that these campaigns actually help to 'dumb down' the publishers; how many Witnesses actually get into a good Biblical discussion anymore? And by extension, how many publishers are actually publishing to householders what the Watch Tower Society's beliefs are?

    These days its all about the "ding-dong! here's a leaflet, buh-bye now!"
