'Just as important as the preaching work' question. Please respond.

    Greetings:

A thread regarding the WT view of the importance of good works, whose title I cannot recall, was posted not too long ago. There has been talk locally about a Watchtower that equates these acts of charity with the preaching work. Is that a correct interpretation of present truth?

Is the stilled "pendulum" once again swinging back the other way?

    Thank you,

    CoCo

Through this link you can find brother James' scans of that article, that clearly states that you can not say that preaching would be more important than helpful actions for fellow christians.

Ironically that was one of the points Ray Franz was trying to make when he was on the governing body, that not all Kingdom service is ministry.

Thanks very much, Kosonen and NMKA!

Please see the quotation below from the link that Kosonen kindly provided:

This WT study was the first since a long time ago about which I was happy to attend a meeting and to make comments on it. The elder presiding the WT study in my congregation stressed on the point that the preaching work was a good thing but that helping our dear and beloved brothers was as important as preaching... He said, it's useless to preach if we overlook our suffering b/s who struggle hard to remain in the truth like us all, mainly unbeknownst to us because of different or perhaps private ordeals....
His words were the answer to my prayers to my dear heavenly Father. How much I wished his analysis would have been relayed all around the world....

In talking with my JWs, I know that the above sentiments are shared by many in the congregations. It's inherent in all mankind to do good unto one's neighbor, though the slant here is toward those related to us in the faith.

    Gratefully,

    CoCo

Helping other JWs stay strong in their religion is not charity in any way IMO. True charity is showing love to fellow human beings in need with no consideration to their religious beliefs.

    I agree Signora Fiorini,

The scripture in James does not give any indication as to what kind of "widows and orphans" we are to look after, although other scriptures show there is ADDED resposibility to those related to us in the faith, but Jesus said "love your enemies",that is true caritas,or charity.

I believe that creating value should be classified as the most sacred service, even if the person gets paid for it. Without it, what is going to happen when the world gets destroyed and they need people to rebuild? Or, could it be that they really want to live in the Second Dark Ages?
