I just ordered this book after hearing the author speak a few nights ago on the Coast to Coast radio program.

Jesus, Interrupted: Revealing the Hidden Contradictions in the Bible (And Why We Don't Know About Them) (Hardcover)

    http://www.amazon.com/Jesus-Interrupted-Revealing-Hidden-Contradictions/dp/0061173932/

Review"Ehrman's ability to translate scholarship for a popular audience has made the James A. Gray Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill a superstar in the publishing world" (IndyWeek )

"For both scholars and the masses who read about religion, Bart D. Ehrman needs no introduction . . . He adds the personal to the scholarly for some of his works, detailing how he went from a Moody Bible Institute-educated fundamentalist evangelical to an agnostic . (Durham Herald-Sun )

    Product Description

Picking up where Bible expert Bart Ehrman's New York Times bestseller Misquoting Jesus left off, Jesus, Interrupted addresses the larger issue of what the New Testament actually teaches—and it's not what most people think. Here Ehrman reveals what scholars have unearthed:

    • The authors of the New Testament have diverging views about who Jesus was and how salvation works

    • The New Testament contains books that were forged in the names of the apostles by Christian writers who lived decades later

    • Jesus, Paul, Matthew, and John all represented fundamentally different religions

    • Established Christian doctrines—such as the suffering messiah, the divinity of Jesus, and the trinity—were the inventions of still later theologians

These are not idiosyncratic perspectives of just one modern scholar. As Ehrman skillfully demonstrates, they have been the standard and widespread views of critical scholars across a full spectrum of denominations and traditions. Why is it most people have never heard such things? This is the book that pastors, educators, and anyone interested in the Bible have been waiting for—a clear and compelling account of the central challenges we face when attempting to reconstruct the life and message of Jesus.

Could an admin please give this thread a title? I forgot to give it one. Thanks.

The New Testament contains books that were forged in the names of the apostles by Christian writers who lived decades later

Forged? Why would anyone bother to create such an elaborate scheme? And for what purpose?

How many people do you think were in on this?

Is this one of the secrets of the secret societies?

    What do you think, VM?

Is it just another conspiracy theory to sell a book?

Jesus, Paul, Matthew, and John all represented fundamentally different religions

Ah, now this looks like it is steering us into the one world unification.

"Look at the similarities of all these different religions" (That's the plan. Downplay the differences.)

Paul wrote half of the NT and he never even met Jesus nor heard him speak. The NT drops a few names that link Paul as being a relative of King Herod. There is also implication that Paul belonged to the secret society of Mystery School initiates.

Will it be a surprise to you to learn that Jesus was not a Christian? Do you think the book will reveal that Jesus went to India and had a guru? That would tie in with what the New Agers are saying. Back to the Hindu roots. (Careful, don't get sucked in.)

Established Christian doctrines—such as the suffering messiah, the divinity of Jesus, and the trinity—were the inventions of still later theologians

I guess this is where they promote the philosophy that humans can save themselves because the kingdom of god is within and we are all god.

They will tell you Jesus is not coming back. The order of the day is for humans to take personal responsibility to save themselves and save the planet. This is the new Green Religion. The Green Man speaks.

"This is the book that pastors, educators, and anyone interested in the Bible have been waiting for—"

This is hard to believe. "Pastors waiting for this book"?

After spending a couple of years in seminary school they claim to already know it all.

For years they have claimed to be getting their sermons directly from god.

Could there be something in this book that god hasn't told them but has told Erhman?

Religions are falling apart. People are coming together and asking questions and seeing the sham of lies and manipulations. There is a plan to reorganize and revamp the control system of the masses. This plan has been in place for a long time; it's well thought out. None of this is by chance.

There is another life form on this planet. They are at the pinnacle. The illuminati answers to them. The 144K brilliant points of light will guide the mind controlled masses into their new corral. Only those who are willing to submit to the new direction of a facist religion under the guise of the New Age spirituality and unification of all denominations will pass their test. Those 144K brilliant lights will blind people again.

"Paul wrote half of the NT and he never even met Jesus nor heard him speak"

This is the second time I read you saying this. But it's just not true. Why do you keep saying this?

Paul (then Saul) meet Jesus on the road to Damascus.

    Acts 9

As Saul traveled along and was approaching Damascus, a light from heaven suddenly flashed around him. He dropped to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?" He asked, "Who are you, Lord?" The voice said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.

The Trinity didn't come about after jesus' time nor the idea divinity of Christ/son of God idea. It was a key part of many religions milennia before christianity.

Bob Asks: This is the second time I read you saying this. But it's just not true. Why do you keep saying this?

It has nothing to do with a trivial name change of Saul-Paul as you are reckoning.

Saul-Paul had hallucinations and claimed to have heard voices and seen apparitions.

He never actually met Jesus during his 'ministry' when he was alive, nor did he actually hear Jesus speak in audible reality.

When Paul wrote half of the new testament, it was predicated upon heresay about Jesus, and Paul's own ideas of legalistic, Pharisaic control of the masses.

Just wanted to add that what Paul (saul) experienced on the road to Damascus was a episode of hallucination.

Today it would probably be termed schizophrenia.

Then again, Paul (Saul) could have been making this up to simply to manipulate people.

He was dealing with a crowd that had been trained to be controlled by such superstitions.

    I never said it did.

If you don't believe the bible, that's up to you but biblicaly speaking Paul DID meet and speak to Jesus when he was alive.

Maybe you don't believe in the resurrection.

    Peace
