Your jw & archeology, history, science shows......

Do any of you have this problem? First I should mention that I am not one of the penispeople so I rarely get to handle the remote control. That said, my jw drives me crazy, if we are watching something interesting and it conflicts with jw dogma he will change the channel. He usually doesn't say anything he just changes it or at times he will give a smart aleck, 'yeah, right' to a subject and then changes it. Of course I protest if it interests me and he will keep the program on and find a newspaper to read or even leave the room. I tell you it is slim pickings trying to watch something with a jw sometimes! Most programs are either immoral in some way to them or do not agree with their complete ignorance in science, history, archeology, etc...... I suppose I have been through this before and must wait for superdubdum to wear off or wait for some boring book to be the topic at the meetings. These things tend to go in cycles, I know, patience is a virtue. I must have extra brownie points in virtue by now!!

Once in the litter-ature they said something like, "When nothing is at stake, the husband may let the wife make choices."

It's annoying for me because i have an immense interest in evolution & frequently watch programs about it, it doesn't go down too well in the house i live in :(

I am one of the penispeople and I have ultimate control of the remote...

I purposely watch shows about evolution, earth science, wildlife and history hoping that some of the info presented on the show will cause my wife to think about the JW belief versus the scientific findings. It might not lead to any discussions or questions right off, but maybe, just maybe, something will lodge somewhere in her brain to resurface later when a conundrum results between belief and evidence.

Even shows that aren't overtly pushing evolution help. I was watching a show on coal mining history in the Appalachain mountains. An expert was explaining how coal was formed and he went into how organic and other material was compressed over hundreds of thousands to millions of years to create the coal material. The immediate question if you're a longtime JW and paying attention is, if all life on earth is less than 50,000 thousand years old (JW teaching not yet eradicated) how can coal come to be in existance so quickly?

Undercover, I agree! Watching some of those shows could possibly get them thinking but only if they don't turn the channel as soon as something comes on that challenges their thinking. As for penispeople having control of the remote, I find that across all relgious, ethnic, age and race lines, men get the remote unless the wife literally holds it or hides it under the cushion she is sitting on! Shooting daggers the minute they come in works pretty well to let them know they are not changing the channel come hell or high water, but causes wrinkles.

If a program or movie discussed Ice Ages or evolution or the afterlife, my mom would whisper to me, "We don't believe that." I hated that....lol.
