Did anybody else see "Br. Prince" on Tavis Smiley?

Welp, it was interesting. Tavis was a "little" over the top saying he was "the greatest musician in the world." (Riiiight.) I found it hard to understand Br Prince when he was trying to make a point, for some reason.

He proclaimed he was a JW and JW's don't vote, so he did not vote for Obama.

He sure is a weird duck. Tavis has the conclusion of the interview tonight.

Yeah, I caught this. Prince is hard to follow, not because his expressions are so deep, but because he doesn't verbalize his thoughts clearly. Prince touted the party line about not voting and about how prophecy involves the U.N. and religion. But the fact is that he's new to all this WT stuff. Those of us who have been around JWs for decades know the real deal- that it's all a crock. I look forward to what another poster once said: "Prince is going to make a great ex-JW."

He's a JW because of his wife? Wow, how many of us fell for that? I remember there was a falling out and talk about his JW wife divorcing him, but I guess they sorted it out.

You've got to check out "An Evening with Kevin Smith: Evening Harder". He talks about Prince wanting him to come to his house and film people discussing his songs and their religious nature (if I'm remembering right). But even funnier is the first hand accounts of his purpleness and things his handlers said. By Smith's account, Prince is WAY out of touch with reality at this point. Which is kind of a pre-requisite to being a JW.

As far as who got him to be a JW. This could be just rumor, but I had heard from friends in Minneapolis that Morris Day used to be a JW and they'd see him at the District Assemblies. Morris Day has been a friend of Prince's since they were kids. If Morris Day was a JW, I don't know whether that had any influence on Prince though. But who knows? Could be Morris Day's mother planted some seeds in Prince's mind way back and he decided to explore it later.

However he got into it, I'm surprised he hasn't been kicked out by now.

    Did he talk about this?

Prince Opens Up on Being Teased, and His Relationship With His Father

Prince may have built his career on cool, but as a kid, he wasn’t immune to bullying. In a rare interview on PBS’ Tavis Smiley show, the man in purple explains how his parents’ rift actually sparked his musical career—and gave him the confidence to ignore the teasing.

Prince tells Smiley being made fun of as a kid led him to become an introvert. “The first thing I did is I, of course, went into self,” the singer says. “And I taught myself music.” His parents had a rocky relationship, and it was only after the Raspberry Beret singer’s father (a jazz musician) left that he discovered his own musical talent. “My father left his piano at the house when he left,” he remembers. “And I wasn’t allowed to play it when he was there, because I wasn’t as good as him. So when he left, I was determined to get as good as him.

The hard work paid off, and soon Prince’s talent trumped the teasing. “People in the neighborhood heard about me and then started to talk about me. And it wasn’t in the teasing fashion—it was more like, ‘Wow, look what he can do.’ Once I got that support from people, I believed I could do anything.

The two-part interview will air on Tavis Smiley on April 27 and April 28

    Exactly!

I saw the rest of the interview last night and his new protege. (I hear he's been showing her off in local JW circles.) He is still referring to Larry Graham as his "teacher"...he's still in love with it all. The curtain behid the wizard will be pulled back eventually, and he will make a great ex-JW.

Yes purps, he did talk about his father a bit. He said he was really hard on him, and musically also very hard.

It was funny how Tavis Smiley became visibly uncomfortable when Prince brought up how he didn't vote because of his religion and then didn't give any real reason. I hope Prince makes the circuit and lets a few more interviewers get at him. I don't know that Jon Stewart or Charlie Rose or NPRs Fresh Air will let him get away with the non-answer he gave Smiley.
