    Anyone here a member?

Even though I'm deathly afraid of water, I want to join the polar bear club and jump in some freezing water. (with flotation device, of course). I take cold showers sometimes, and once you get past the sheer pain, you get out and dry off and your skin feels warm and tingly and you feel full of energy. It's great. Anyone else?

When I was younger I outdoor bathed , early mornings, Easter through Thankgiving. I enjoyed it then, very invigorating. Now I drag my tired butt up the stairs & sit in the steam shower, then go to bed.

Doe when you come to California, we will hike up in Yosemite area. Alpine lakes, they are never warm. Invigorating as all hell!

Do they get their heads wet? I have had ice cream headaches from getting my head dunked while surfing here in So. California when the water has been very cold for us (about 46 degrees) It doesn't last too long once your head is out of the water but while it is there your head throbs like it is going to explode. I don't see the fun in that.

That's all the blood vessels in your head contracting to conserve heat. And yes, cold water feels like hell--it's getting out that feels good. ;-) It's also good for your heart.
