Jw's use publications as proof and back up for their doctrines instead of the bible.

I say this because when I was preparing to leave the organisation I did initially agree to have a bible study with an elder and a sister in good standing. My only condition is that we use the bible as a means of proving or disproving doctrines. They had agreed to that. However when the test came the watchtowers and all other publications were brought in to prove this or that. I reiterated that if they wanted to prove their faith they had to the bible and be lead of gods' spirit.

They then felt I was being too difficult.

The Jw's do not know the bible, they quote out of context and there are no foundations in the bible for their doctrines/traditions/rules that they heap upon themselves.

That alone should be a sign that this faith has strayed.

    I agree wholeheartedly LouBelle.

My wife is an on/off again JW BS participant.....yes she opens the NWT occasionally, but primarly a verse here, a verse there, never a full story from the Bible, on the otherhand, full WT articles, full chapters in the Bible Teach book......I feel that the roots of the organization may have intended it to be based in the Bible, but even with the slants that have been put in the NWT, the Bible pretty much is what it is, and that does not fit the needs of the organization's governing body.

They claim their religion is based firmly on the Bible. Hence, it is not unreasonable to request that the Bible, and only the Bible, be used to verify a doctrine for accuracy. And, if the Bible and the material they are studying disagree, the Bible should win out. If they are truly based on the Bible, that should be no problem.

On the other hand, if you do not claim to be based on the Bible in any way, using the Bible would be unfair. For instance, the "secret" society I joined doesn't even pretend to be Bible-based (in fact, they bash the Bible in ways that I can easily understand when I look at it without religious bias). Thus, I do not expect them to be able to use the Bible to prove anything. Nor do they require me to agree with everything they have to say--but to continue researching from all sources and coming to my own conclusions based on my own observations.

The Washtowel Babble and Crap Slaveholdery, unlike the "secret" society, does claim to be based on the Bible. They claim to have a monopoly on following the Bible properly. Thus, if one can use the Bible to prove them wrong, one has proven that they do not abide by it and could well be telling other lies.

I recently asked my wife to prove 1914 to me from the bible. She said ok...opened the CD and asked if she could use the Daniel book instead. I said sure. She started reading but didn't get very far. I stopped her at Dan 4 having a greater fulfillment...607BCE...LOL

    Hi LouBelle,

Yes, sad but true. They do not want to use it on its own in case this happens.

    Hebrews 4:12 (New International Version)

12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

    Jeremiah 23:29 (New International Version)

29 "Is not my word like fire," declares the LORD, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?

    All the best,

    Stephen

    Loubelle -

Don't you remember the WT study that said that true Christians have to accept all Bible truths, includung those taught by The Witlesses which "HAVE BECOME PART OF THE BIBLE"?

This is why they quote from the litterature to "prove" stuff when they cannot find a scripture to twist to their own ends.
