Did people think you’re stupid just because you had the Borg frame of reference?

By this I mean, did 'worldlies' assume you were stupid because you didn't understand basic things about the world?

I got that a lot. Was called an airhead.

Suffice to say, that's far from the truth. I just didn't understand people's jokes or basic things about our culture because I'd never been exposed to them.

I distinctly remember someone telling me I'm one of those very smart individuals who has no common sense & that is a flaw in the brain of highly intelligent people. That wasn't true at all. I actually have a lot of common sense now because I've devoted myself to figuring out what makes everything tick. Before I just hadn't had any opportunity to do so.

I think that for me growing up where I did, in what most witnesses would consider a good congregation, upbringing, etc, I myself feel that I never learned to think critically but instead relied on accepting the word of others and then defend it as if it were my own. I wonder if it seemed to others that I was stupid.

To some degree, the process is similar for me today but I have learned to parse through sources and decide which to accept as accurate, and have learned that so very little is verifiable as 100%.

I do remember the look on my counselor's faces when I told the I was not going to college, that I would be a farmer or truck driver.

Those growing up in the Borg often experienced programmed mental "retardation," flaunted it to others, and somehow came to be proud of being oblivious .... So, outsiders did think I was stupid ... and they were right!
