Imagine yourself as a young generation dressed up in today's pop culture style, listening to today's popular music and have a pop culture phrases such as "dude", "chill" "l33t", "epic fail", "fo shizzle", etc. You get my meaning.

Now imagine a 80 year old trying to stay on top of today's pop culture with his pants below his waist with his underwear showing, along with some bling - bling, bangin' to today's popular music, etc. (ew, I think I just threw up a little).

How do you guys feel seeing older generation trying to "get with it" in terms of language, clothing style, music and everything else that's considered "cool" in today's pop culture?

I like it more than when they push their own out of date fashions on the youth.

I am in my fifties, and I just completed a research project about l33t for a university course, so yeah, I speak l33t and I know an epic fail when I see one. I will not, however, be wearing my pants down below my waist. It's mom jeans for me.

I believe that the language will be changing significantly in the coming years as the l33t generation moves ahead. Already, Keith Olberman has a "WTF Moment" on his nightly newscast.

It's an interesting point. In this country I see that fashion is stalling.

The baby boomers who ran fashion for the last twenty plus yrs, marketed to all generations, so this backfired into nothing being unique. Look at surf clothing. I see eighty yr old people wearing Billabong and Rip Curl surf and snow gear.

Knda funny that the next generation may find fashion in second hand shops, costing nothing...

No, it was for an HONORS course. My research thesis (self-chosen) was on the topic of l33t. But...there will be l33t in universities. W00t is already in the dictionary.

Putting in l33t words into the dictionary, IMHO is plain stupid.

Whatever happened to a good ol' fashioned English language?

It never really existed, it's never been the same from one year to the next. People from the time of Columbus would no doubt have much to complain about if they were to here the language of the Victorians.

I'm 41. I've been on the internet for 11 years. I still don't know what l33t or W00t mean. I could look it up, but what the hey, I don't care. Modern western youth "culture" is what has been marketed to youth to give them something they can conform to while expressing their "individuality." Hah! Same thing happened when I was a kid. My peers wore Izod, OP, and deck shoes, so I wanted to wear them as well. I never had a proper mullet (thank the deity) though.

What I really find annoying though is so-called hip-hop culture, which isn't new anymore btw. I was still a teen when rap became popular (again) and break dancing was popular too. I don't know all the variations or fine details of this sub culture. I just know that it gets more annoying and louder as time goes along.

I really dislike most of the dress and grooming standards of this group. I see boys walking down the street with crooked baseball caps on their buzz cut heads. Back in my day, getting a buzz cut was a sign of having head lice.

There is a message that is given by the oversized pants and hats: "I am a baby. I don't want to grow up." I wouldn't be surprised to see pacifiers and diapers become part of the clown costumes of today's youth!

    Rant over.

I have no idea what these are. Unless they have relevance in my work or my personal life, I probably won't educate myself on them. I do think the captions on icanhascheezburger.com are quite hilarious though! My neice and nephews do 'gangsta' speak. Are any of these part of l33t or W00t?

I have always been one to pick and choose what I like that is 'new'. I see people wearing the low-rider jeans constantly hitching them up and feel this is not for me (just say 'No' to Crack!). I used to wear these back when I was a kid (they were in when I was 8 years old). I'm not into having to do that so I'm with the 'classic' fit, thanks. I do like the 'shirt out' look (is that old now?) and the fit of the new t-shirts and blouses.

I am always fascinated at the new/current music artists going back to the 'old' music! Currently, Culture is doing Toto's "Africa". I love Green Day's version of John Lennon's "Working Class Hero". I applaud the group for using this to bring attention to the situation in Darfur. I definitely like Eddie Vedder's (of Pearl Jam) version of Indio's (Gordon Peterson's) "Big Hard Sun", although my fave is still the original from Indio.

Whatever the case, change is constant in this life and I make up my own mind as to what I like.
